Purdue School of Materials Engineering

Purdue School of Materials Engineering We’re a place where you still “make stuff”; it’s real-world materials engineering.

The School of Materials Engineering (MSE), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009, is one of the smaller schools in Purdue’s College of Engineering, with just over 1,800 living alumni. The School prepares students to excel in applications and innovations for metals, polymers, ceramics and electronic materials, and a degree in MSE means graduates are qualified and sought after to work in alm

ost any industry. Materials Engineering is known for its hands-on, authentic, educational approach; providing an excellent learning environment while carrying out cutting-edge research that impacts the state, nation, and world. That’s why students pick MSE at Purdue, and why employers return year after year to get ready-to-work MSE’s that have a unique blend of fundamentals and practice. From lab classes where every student is casting a bronze ingot or running x-ray diffraction, to having our sophomores using cutting-edge computational materials tools in the world-class nanoHUB platform, Materials Engineering provides extensive student-faculty interactions for all of our students.

💛 Throwback Thursday to Purdue Day of Giving!

Just one week ago, our Materials Engineering community came together in a powerful way. Thanks to the generosity of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and supporters, MSE raised $224,085 on Purdue Day of Giving!

These gifts help support our students, advance cutting‑edge research, and provide hands‑on experiences that prepare Boilermakers to lead in materials innovation.

We are incredibly grateful for your support. Thank you for making an impact with Materials Engineering!

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS!

Purdue University Material Advantage (PUMA) is a materials science focused club that works to develop students' professional and social skills. One of our main attributes is that we are able to fully fund students every year to attend conferences such as MS&T and TMS where they can present research, compete in competitions, and network with peers and professionals. To do this, however, we need funds! Today, on Purdue's annual Day of Giving, we ask that you contribute to our cause and help us send more students to future conferences. Any amount helps, and we appreciate your generosity!
