Natasha Jaiswal, CALC Faculty Associate, co-authored a study entitled “Lactate homeostasis is maintained through regulation of glycolysis and lipolysis.” The study shows how the body carefully balances lactate levels by controlling how it is produced and used. Researchers found that insulin increases lactate production, but rising lactate levels can signal the body to slow down this process and boost its breakdown. These findings reveal how the body maintains stable lactate levels, which may help improve understanding of conditions like diabetes.

Congratulations to Heesoo Roh, who graduates this spring with the dual-title PhD in Health & Kinesiology and Gerontology. Her dissertation, “When Purpose Moves Us: Exploring How Purpose in Life Shapes Motivation and Physical Activity,” examines three theoretical pathways (direct, indirect via autonomous motivation, and adversity-buffering) that explain how purpose in life supports engagement in physical activity. Dr. Roh is currently seeking a postdoctoral position.
