It is with deep sadness that the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University records the passing of Professor Emeritus Lawrence G. Brown- “Larry” to his friends and colleagues.

Professor Brown was a distinguished mathematician, a valued colleague, and a longstanding member of the Purdue community whose scholarly contributions and intellectual presence profoundly enriched the department and the broader field of mathematics.

Through the Purdue 1 Indiana Essay Competition, Hoosier fifth graders are invited to write about how they could use a favorite school subject, hobby or skill to help a space mission crew succeed.
One winner from each of Indiana's 92 counties will receive a patch bearing their name. If mission conditions permit, winners' names will even travel to space aboard Purdue 1, the university's upcoming all-Boilermaker suborbital research spaceflight!
Students can enter through their classroom or on their own with a parent or guardian. Essays are due Nov. 30: https://bit.ly/purdue-1-essay
