PI4D is delighted to recognize several recent awards and honors in our academic community:
Congratulations to Jessica Huber, co-founder of SpeechVive™. Her company raised $1.5 million to speed the company’s growth and increase accessibility for the wearable technology (https://parkinsonsnewstoday.com/2020/07/15/speechvive-raises-1-5m-to-speed-companys-growth/) that improves speech clarity in Parkinson’s patients. Huber is a professor of speech, language and hearing sciences and associate dean for research in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
Congratulations to Gaurav Chopra, assistant professor of analytical and physical chemistry, and Riyi Shi, professor of basic medical sciences and director of the Center for Paralysis Research, for receiving $1.3 million from the Department of Defense for research looking at connections between traumatic brain injury (https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2020-07/pu-pir072020.php) and Alzheimer’s disease. Shi also was recently named the Mari Hulman George Endowed Professor of Applied Neuroscience.
Aaron Bowman, professor and head of the School of Health Sciences, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Labor’s advisory board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health for the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program.
