Thank you all for attending! We are grateful for another great event, as Dr. Jeremy Bonta, Director of the Counseling program, presented on OCD and Scrupulosity, alongside Charles Haley and Jacob Lowinger, students in the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. This presentation enabled us to explore the topic from both the clinician's perspective and the human experience. Everyone, to some degree, comes from a faith-based background or knows someone who does, and we've all had intrusive thoughts, yet have been able to move past them. However, for individuals with OCD and Scrupulosity, intrusive thoughts related to religion or morality can cause them to over-identify with these thoughts, which may lead to isolation and compulsive behaviors involving scripture, inhibiting them from having a healthy spiritual practice. As Charles mentioned, our aim is to raise awareness of this OCD subtype to support those who might be struggling with it. As we continue to support this cause, Jacob shared in the presentation that Vero Beach will be hosting an OCD Walk event on Sunday, December 7, at 8 a.m. For more information, feel free to click the link here: https://iocdf.org/event/vero-beach-ocd-walk/ We look forward to seeing you at our next PBA and Tree of Life Network event in 2026. Stay tuned!
