As we continue to celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, get to know Dr. Lan Bui, associate professor of pharmacy practice at PBA's Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy. Originally from Vietnam, Dr. Bui’s journey reflects resilience, faith, and a deep commitment to serving others through education and healthcare.
Her Vietnamese heritage has shaped the values she carries into both her personal and professional life, which include love for family, respect for education, perseverance, humility, and compassion for others. After moving to the United States as an international student in 2016, Dr. Bui developed a passion for mentorship and creating spaces where students feel seen, supported, and encouraged.
This APAHM, we celebrate leaders like Dr. Bui who use their experiences, faith, and calling to make a lasting impact on their communities. Read more here: pba.edu/news/asian-pacific-american-heritage-month-highlight-lan-bui/

"Memorial Day is often associated with flags, ceremonies, gatherings, and moments of silence. Yet beneath these traditions lies something much deeper: a reminder that freedom has always carried a human cost. Behind every folded flag is a story, a family, a future interrupted, and a life willingly placed in service to something greater than self. For many, Memorial Day becomes a long weekend. But for others, it is personal. It is the memory of a friend who never came home, a son or daughter whose chair remains empty, or a name etched into the hearts of those left behind. It is not simply about military history. In a world increasingly shaped by division, anxiety, and isolation, Memorial Day invites us to rediscover shared humanity." Get to know PBA junior Joseph Yuen this Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month!
Joseph is studying biology with concentrations in botany, environmental science, and field biology while serving as a tutor in PBA’s Writing Central. With Korean and Chinese heritage, Joseph values APAHM as a time to reconnect with his roots and recognize the unique cultures and stories within the Asian and Pacific Islander community. His upbringing instilled a strong work ethic, independence, and a passion for learning, qualities that continue to guide him academically and personally.

Inspired by both his heritage and his love for God’s creation, Joseph is pursuing environmental studies and conservation work that allow him to make a positive impact through stewardship and restoration. From celebrating Lunar New Year with family and traditional dishes like Japchae to sharing his love for music through piano, guitar, and vocal ensembles at PBA, Joseph’s story reflects the richness of culture, creativity, and community.
