Check out these SERIOUSLY underestimated reasons NOT to DIY your website.

1. Scaleability:

Most DIY website platforms will leave you hanging as your business grows. Things like integrations with CRM platforms and more. You will be stuck with whatever they do or don't offer.

2. It's NOT That Easy:

Sounds great... Just click, drag and drop yourself to the perfect website, right? So why are there hundreds of thousands of freelancers making six figures... FIXING THEM? Seriously, look at some freelance job boards and the number of "Help me with my WIX site" posts is really something. WIX and Squarespace even have their own built-in platforms to hire professionals. DIY? Really?

3. TIME and the "Accidental Website Manager":

See #1 and #2 and add up the time - if you are serious about your business, and you want to have a great site experience - it's going to take TEN TIMES the effort and time to DIY your way to success. How much is the 'Accidental Website Manager' on your team costing you??

Top 5 Website Mistakes - Small Business / Startup Edition - we see these ALL THE TIME.

#5 -WAITING TO UPGRADE / LAUNCH A NEW SITE
So many will get into "analysis paralysis" with colors and fonts, or never make it out of the bidding and research process. How many colors does your favorite care come in? Pick one and get going... Websites are never 'finished'. Make the first upgrade now. That alone will likely be 80% of where you need to be (the core things that move the needle). Tackle the remaining 20% (make it 'perfect' as you go.)

#4 POOR USER EXPERIENCE
See above - no need to overthink it.....but DO make sure the experience is excellent. Simple is easy, and easy CONVERTS.

#3 WRONG AMOUNT OF CONTENT
It seems like it's either too much(confusing) or too little (still confusing) - Have a plan for what you want to communicate before you even think about building a website.

#2 NO CLEAR CALL TO ACTION
Building on #3.....MAKE IT OBVIOUS - What do YOU want visitors to DO on your page?
We do know what your visitors DON'T want to do...
work, wait, wish, wonder....
make it easy for them to transact/contact/call - whatever it is you want them to do.... make it easy.

#1(by far). BAD MOBILE EXPERIENCE
It's all mobile, and we all know it - but still, we see it ignored over and over. It's easy to forget as a small business owner because you are likely using a computer all day - out of sight out of mind maybe?

If your site doesn't look good on the phone, you are LOSING BUSINESS EVERY DAY.

Think about this - HOW are they getting to your site?

If you're doing most of your marketing on any social media channels, or you are running ads, even email... your prospects are likely to be USING A MOBILE when they see your link/button/post/ad. So they are going first to see you ON THE PHONE.

Check and test your website on the phone. Recheck it. Check it in a month. If you think your business is exempt from this rule - think again.

For a long long time, we've stayed away from email software and stuck to web based interfaces - like gmail - basically to avoid Outlook! Mailbird is changing that today. After using for about a month now, our team is finding a ton of reasons to love real email software again, and Mailbird is finding a permanent place in our workflow. It's worth a look for any small business who needs to organize multiple addresses/accounts including social media feeds, and other fantastic integrations like to-do lists and google docs.

An Easier Way To Get a Pro Website

Hi! My name is Matt, I’m the founder of WebWise, thank you for being here. We are not a big agency and we like it that way. We are a small team that truly cares about helping small business owners, and entrepreneurs get a quality website at an affordable price.

I’ve talked to many business owners about getting websites and one of the most common things I see, is the sheer amount of F.U.D. Fear, uncertainty and doubt. Should I call a big agency? Yikes how much will that cost....? Should I just have my neighbors kid’s best friend do it? Should I do it...MYSELF? (gasp) The truth is that the technology to build a top quality website really easily and quickly does exist, and yeah you can buy a template for 50 bucks. But what about the domain name, and the hosting and how do I get the template installed - you can bury 40 hours into a ‘simple DIY’ before you know it. Your time is valuable, and that 40 hours ends up being a 20,000 dollar website pretty quick.

Sure, some folks have the budget (and time, and patience) to go visit a swanky agency downtown - and we think that’s great. Others are completely content to have a friend, neighbor or freelance stranger do the work and are comfortable with some DIY. Great!

For the rest, we offer a middle ground - a hybrid approach if you will. Think of it as professionally guided DIY with a dash of agency expertise at neighbor kid prices. Smart right!?
