Since 2007, Westfield State University has offered a Bachelor Arts in Theatre Arts, with concentrations in Performance, Design & Technology, and Theatre Studies. The Program is committed to preparing students for work in the professional theatre and for graduate study. An emphasis is placed on the creative and learning process and upon mentoring students and providing them with close personal attention. The bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts is designed to provide students with a fundamentally sound and well-rounded education and training in theatre and its related arts of performance and design; to nurture students' creative, metaphorical, critical, analytical, interpretive, and synthetic thinking and reasoning skills; and to develop their collaborative and interpersonal skills. These various skills will help students succeed in a wide range of careers. It is the objective of the program to instill in it's students an abiding respect for theatre as an historical and cultural institution; to enhance their appreciation for theatre's significant role in a society's social, political, and cultural life; and to prepare students for the world of the professional theater, for graduate study, and for the demands of the twenty-first century workplace in a global economy. Westfield State University fosters intellectual curiosity, encourages critical thinking, inspires civic engagement and promotes a global perspective. A public teaching institution offering quality programs in the liberal arts and sciences with complementing professional studies curricula, we are grounded in our founding principles of academic excellence and educating all in a diverse and welcoming community.
