The International Programs Office (IPO) serves as the gateway to all internationally related activities and programs at Westfield State University. We work with both incoming international students and scholars and outgoing study abroad and study away students. The entire office works collaboratively to provide the support our students need and deserve. IPO prides itself on giving students the cha

nce to see the world, no matter how far from home. Whether it's a semester-long study abroad program, a short-term faculty-led program, a national study away program, or working with our international student population on campus, there are many opportunities for students to get involved and explore their global community.

Westfield State's "Go Global" programs are courses that travel for 1-3 weeks with Westfield State faculty and staff.

These courses allow students to get hands on travel experience related to the content of the course. Often, travel takes place over spring break or early summer, with the occasional course traveling during winter break.

Courses vary each academic year, so be sure to check in!

You don't have to go abroad to see the world.

National Student Exchange gives students the opportunity to study at one of the other member campuses for a semester or academic year.

There are a number of reasons that National Student Exchange might be for you. Maybe you don't want to go as far from home or you want to stay near relatives. Maybe you'd like to save money. Maybe you are studying a subject that is harder to take abroad. Maybe there's no 'reason' at all!

Traveling to an "unconventional" study abroad destination can give students opportunities that they may not find in more traditional study abroad destinations. From being fully immersed in the local culture and less in tourist culture to - often - having a lower cost of living, students will see benefits in exploring these often overlooked destinations.

It can be hard to find the time to study abroad while staying on track to graduate, holding a job, participating in campus activities... Just because you're busy doesn't mean there's no way for you to go abroad.

By participating in a winter or summer program, you will only be away for anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks - entirely dependent on the program you select - and it will not interrupt your academic plan at Westfield State.

One of the best ways to learn a new language is by immersing yourself in it. Whether you're a beginner or advanced speaker, there are study abroad language programs for you.

Many language-centric programs take place in the summer, so you won't fall behind on your other studies. Additionally, if you're looking to go abroad for longer, most semester-long programs allow students to take a language class as an elective course.
