WCJC Associate Degree Nursing The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at Wharton County Junior College prepares graduates to be

The ADN program is a twenty-two month program designed to prepare the traditional student for practice as a Registered Nurse. The curriculum for the Associate Degree Nursing Program focuses on the art and science of nursing, taught in classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical practice settings. Courses cover provision of nursing care across the life span and addresses individuals and their health

care needs in the context of the family and groups. Students have the opportunity to engage in clinical learning in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and community-based agencies in Wharton County, Houston, and surrounding areas. Typically, students enrolled in the program will spend 14-16 hours a week in clinical settings with patients, and 4-6 hours in class work as part of the nursing curriculum. Upon completion of the required curriculum and a standardized comprehensive examination in the final term, graduates earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree and are eligible to make application to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Some of the major strengths of the ADN program include excellent practice sites in acute, critical and community-based care, the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, an experienced faculty with a strong clinical focus, and exceptional academic support services. Graduates of our program are highly regarded by employers because of their strong preparation for entry into professional practice. They are also well prepared to continue their studies at the baccalaureate level. The program is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.
