The Maywood–Wheaton (IL) Alumni Chapter proudly recognizes Brother Fred Chavis as our Nupe of the Month for June 2026.

Brother Chavis is a Spring 1994 initiate of the Maywood–Wheaton (IL) Alumni Chapter and a proud graduate of University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he played football and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Broadcasting & Marketing Management.

Professionally, Brother Chavis is a retired Senior Manager with Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg, Illinois. Prior to his successful tenure at Motorola, he served as a Senior Manager with Alcatel-Lucent in Naperville, Illinois.

Brother Chavis has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the Fraternity, having served as the 14th Polemarch of the Maywood–Wheaton (IL) Alumni Chapter and, most recently, as Membership Training Academy (MTA) Chairman, where he was responsible for bringing nine brothers into the Bond during his tenure. He currently serves as the Senior Kappa Affairs Chairman, Awards Chairman, and Lead Mentor of the Guide Right Program at Oswego East High School. Since his appointment as Senior Kappa Affairs Chairman in Fall 2025, Brother Chavis has successfully reenergized the Senior Kappa Committee, bringing renewed focus, engagement, and energy to Senior Kappa programming and initiatives. Brother Chavis is also scheduled to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the Chapter’s historic 50th Anniversary Gala in early June

Additionally, Brother Chavis serves as a Board Member and Advisory Board Chairman of the Diamond Youth Foundation (DYF), the Chapter’s 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving youth throughout Chicago’s western suburbs through mentoring and scholarships for deserving college-bound students.

Beyond Kappa, Brother Chavis remains deeply committed to his faith community through his service at DuPage AME Church in Lisle, Illinois, where he serves as a Steward, member of the Church Security Team, and Executive Council Class Leader.

For the month of June, we proudly salute Brother Fred Chavis for his leadership, humility, dedication, unwavering service, and commitment to Phi Nu Pi, which exemplify the true meaning of Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.

Congratulations, Brother Chavis, on being named MWAC’s Nupe of the Month for June 2026!

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

We especially remember heroes such as John R. Fox, a 1937 initiate of the Wilberforce University Chapter, the Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. During World War II, Brother Fox served in Italy with the 366th Infantry Regiment of the all-Black 92nd Infantry Division, famously known as the Buffalo Soldiers. On December 26, 1944, while serving as a forward artillery observer in the village of Sommocolonia, his position was heavily overrun by German troops. In an extraordinary act of courage and selflessness, Brother Fox made the ultimate sacrifice by ordering a massive artillery strike directly on his own coordinates, an action that saved countless American soldiers.

Brother Fox’s courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms, along with the bravery of so many others who gave their lives in service to our country, will never be forgotten.

Today, we reflect with gratitude on the countless blessings and liberties we enjoy because of their service and sacrifice. May we forever remember those who gave all and strive to live in a way that honors their legacy by building a stronger, more compassionate, and united world.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
