Join me in welcoming Lawrence Pardo, the new Pride Center graduate assistant! Lawrence will be working with BRIDGE and the LGBT Peer Educators, among many other things.

My name is Lawrence Pardo and I am the PRIDE Center Graduate Assistant in the Department of Career & Leadership Development. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Higher Education Leadership here at UW-Whitewater. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. While at UW-Parkside, I passionately worked with other students and staff to promote diversity, inclusion, and safe spaces for minority and underrepresented students. As an undergraduate student, promoting cultural awareness to better represent all students on campus quickly became a passion. These experiences have led me to pursue a career in higher education and obtain my Masters here at UW-Whitewater. When I have the time, I enjoy traveling abroad; I have have been to: Germany, Austria, Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is currently reviewing UW-Whitewater’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which is the federal law that prohibits sexual harassment. Sexual violence, including r**e, is a form of sexual harassment.

Representatives from OCR will be on campus in March to conduct student focus groups to learn more about students’ knowledge of and experience with the university's policies, procedures and resources related to sexual violence and harassment, and to understand the campus climate regarding these issues. If you are a student, please consider attending a focus group. If you are an employee, please make sure the students you work with know about this opportunity.
