(sUAV) have revolutionized industry and research. I am frequently astonished on the detail we can extract from the such as this surface (DTM) processed with a commonly used Phantom 4. Since 2012 I have used various drone technology for research across the world, taught applications to various industries and throughout most of our GIS courses curriculum at Rio Hondo College including processing orthomosaic images in for increased accuracy, better asset collection & navigation to feature extraction and lessons in surface modeling.

To commercially use drones you need to fly your drone under the FAA's Small UAS Rule (Part 107) and you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. Join us online this fall and register for the Rio Hondo College course "Small Unmanned Aircraft System" (GIS150) CRN 77010. GIS150 covers the material so that you understand the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for safely flying and covers various applications in Survey Mapping to generate outputs as shown below using
