UCLA Food Studies Minor

The UCLA Asian American Studies Center in partnership with UCLA Film & Television Archive will continue to celebrate the legacy of Asian American Studies at UCLA with a virtual film festival! Over two weekends, they will present online programming featuring powerful imagery and poignant commentary about meaningful issues facing Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Audiences will hear from filmmakers and actors on their creative journeys, as well as from scholars, artists, and community leaders on themes that apply to today's world.

As part of the festival, there is a “Food and Family” screening, featuring, Final Recipe, Spamfight, and Phoenix Bakery: Sweets for the Sweet, with a pre-recorded conversation with UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television professor Gina Kim, screenwriter and UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television professor George Huang, and actor Chin Han. The “Food and Family” screenings will take place on Sunday, February 28th at 5PM PST.

Join us for an upcoming event, Careers in Food Studies, where you may explore the world of food studies as a profession and have the opportunity to engage with key experts in diverse food related fields. In attendance will be a dynamic group of working professionals whose scope of expertise and practice lie within food science, nutrition, non-profit, urban farming, and entrepreneurship.

Join Mark Plotkin and Brian Hettler of the Amazon Conservation Team for the first lecture of the Plants Worlds Ethnobotany Seminar Series. This talk will be taking place TODAY and is a part of the Plant Worlds Ethnobotany Seminar Series Co-presented by UCLA Humanities, UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden, and The Huntington. The kingdom of plants exhibit their influence at all levels of human survival, society, and culture. This collection of seminars weaves together our scientific understanding of plants with their inextricable roles in our lives--from food and medicine to literature, religion, and the arts.
