Midwestern State University students have earned a coveted spot in NASA’s prestigious SUITS Challenge, joining an elite group of institutions that includes Rice, Columbia, Brown, and UC Irvine. The annual challenge gathers innovative student research to improve graphical interfaces for NASA space suits and related technology, contributing to the Artemis mission’s goal of establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon and Mars. MSU’s Team Selene is collaborating with UC Irvine to develop an interface for the Toyota JAXA rover, enhancing navigation on lunar and Martian terrains while ensuring astronaut safety. The 13-member team, led by Kerry Rahimi, has divided tasks ranging from technical development to community outreach about the Artemis mission. Their dedication and teamwork have earned high praise, with faculty advisor Tina Johnson highlighting their strong collaboration and problem-solving skills. The team will put their systems to the test at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston from May 18 to 22, marking another proud milestone for MSU.
