MSU's computer science program offers several degree options: BA, BS, BS/MS. They also offer several minors in computer science, computational science, high performance computing, and cybersecurity, as well as two certificates in cybersecurity and data science.

Computer Science graduates have a wide range of career paths because they develop strong problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and technical creativity applicable across industries. Upon graduation, computer science majors can work in areas such as software engineering, data science and analytics, machine learning and AI research, cybersecurity, systems and network engineering, web and mobile development, project management, or technical consulting. They may also pursue roles in startups, finance and fintech, healthcare technology, or continue to graduate study and research in computer science or related fields.

Meet Dr. Catherine Stringfellow, professor & chair of the computer science department. With Ph.D. in Computer Science, Dr. Stringfellow is interested in theoretical computer science, computational science and software engineering. Dr. Stringfellow's advice for first year students is "maintain the best attendance in class to learn content, ask questions and keep track of scheduled assignments."

Mathematics graduates have diverse opportunities, since they have acquired the problem solving, creativity, and critical thinking that work well in many different careers. Upon graduation mathematics majors can work in diverse fields including teaching, business (accountant, actuary, analytics, market research, investment management), research (mathematician, statistician, numerical analysis) or may go on to graduate study.

During the spring semester, MSU Texas junior Rykir Evans interned with NASA, where he gained valuable experience, met astronaut Reid Wiseman and Chief Flight Director Gene Kranz, and found confirmation that a career in aerospace is exactly where he belongs. Dr. Joel Brant is a biology professor & chair of the biology department. Trained as a field mammologist, Dr. Brant is most at home in the wilds of western Texas exploring the faunal diversity of the Chihuahuan Desert. Dr. Brant's advice for first year students is "to pay attention to time management. Budget for sleep & eating, then classes, then studying, and then whatever else."
