KU School of Medicine-Wichita Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences We provide outstanding learning experiences in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for medical students, residents, interns and fellows.

We pride ourselves in providing unrivaled patient care in a variety of community settings, including private urban and rural hospitals, community mental health centers, and hospital and medical school based outpatient clinics. Wichita is a regional health care center that draws patients living throu

ghout Kansas and northern Oklahoma. This broad catchment area provides a rich diversity of patients and clinical conditions that further the educational experiences of our trainees. The didactic sessions are led by a combination of full time and volunteer faculty. Combinations of psychiatry residents, psychology interns, and psychology fellows attend these interdisciplinary seminars which provide an added dimension to the learning environment. Department faculty have active research programs in a variety of areas, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, and child clinical trials, and various aspects of clinical neuropsychology and child psychology. Residents, interns, and fellows have multiple opportunities to become involved in research and to author publications.

It is with sadness that we share the passing of Michael Burke, M.D., Ph.D., on July 27. Dr. Burke was a dedicated member of the faculty in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at KU School of Medicine-Wichita from July 1993 through June 2015. During his many years of service, he worked as an inpatient psychiatrist, served as director of interventional psychiatry and as medical clerkship director from 1993 to 2013, helping to educate and mentor countless medical students and residents. His contributions to the department and the field of psychiatry will be remembered with gratitude.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt. We extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Burke's family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
