The Fairmount String Trio, consisting of Dr. Timothy Jones, Dr. Ruben Balboa, and Dr. Leonid Shukaev, with guest Daniel Carrasco, gave a sneak preview at this week’s convocation of two movements from String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96 “American” by Antonín Dvořák.

Congratulations to WSU violinist Isaac Wu, who was named the Senior Division Winner and Overall Winner of the KASTA Solo Competition.

Isaac is also one of the winners of the WSU School of Music Concerto–Aria Competition, a wonderful recognition of his artistry and work this year.

You can hear Isaac and the other winners perform in Miller Concert Hall on March 25 at 7:30 PM. Please join us in celebrating Isaac and supporting these outstanding WSU musicians.

Loved spending time with students and teachers at Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Magnet Middle School this week!

The Wichita State University string faculty had a fantastic visit where we led sectionals and an orchestra clinic, and it was especially meaningful to see so many Shockers represented throughout the day.

Huge shoutout to WSU alum Panya Amphone, who is doing incredible work as the director, and to current WSU student Kenny Phan, who is student teaching with him. We were also joined by current students Savannah Collins and Jesse Havener, along with WSU alumna Kathy Luttrell, who all led sectionals and worked directly with students.

So proud of this community and the meaningful connections between WSU and our local schools. Thanks for having us, Mayberry!
