🎉 Happy 98th Birthday to Governor George Nigh! 🎉

Today, we celebrate one of Eastern’s most distinguished alumni—Governor George Nigh, born June 9, 1927, in McAlester, Oklahoma. A graduate of Eastern Oklahoma A&M College, Governor Nigh made history as the only person to serve four terms as Governor of Oklahoma. His legacy includes making "Oklahoma!" our official state song, championing tourism and the arts, and breaking barriers with appointments that reshaped our courts and state leadership.

Throughout his remarkable career—from teacher, to legislator at age 23, to lieutenant governor, governor, university president, and beyond—he remained one of Oklahoma’s greatest cheerleaders. He is a true Mountaineer who has changed lives and led with heart.

Join us in wishing Governor Nigh a very happy 98th birthday! 🥳🎂

We are saddened to share the passing of Eastern alumnus Monte Charles Womack. Monte passed away on May 27, 2025, at the age of 64.

A proud graduate of Eastern Oklahoma State College with an associate degree in agriculture, Monte met the love of his life, Reina (Haworth), during his time at Eastern. Their journey together began in Wilburton and continued for 44 years of marriage, marked by dedication to education, family, and service.

Monte went on to earn degrees in Agricultural Education and Administration from Oklahoma State University and spent his life shaping future generations through agricultural education. His career spanned more than three decades as a teacher and administrator, and he remained deeply involved with FFA at the state and national levels.

He was a mentor, leader, and tireless advocate for students. His impact will live on through the many lives he touched—and through the Monte Womack Scholarship Fund, established to continue his legacy.

We extend our deepest condolences to Reina and the entire Womack family.

A Celebration of Life BBQ will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 12:00 p.m. at the Morris High School Cafeteria.

🌟 Celebrating Women’s History Month: Rhonda Kite Fields 🌟

A 1978 Eastern graduate, Rhonda Kite Fields is a trailblazer in women’s athletics. After two standout years on Eastern’s basketball team, she made history as Oklahoma State University’s first full-scholarship female athlete. She went on to become OSU’s first female athlete drafted into a professional women’s sport, playing for the Dallas Diamonds in the Women's Basketball League.

Rhonda dedicated 41 years to coaching girls’ basketball, leading teams to seven State Tournament appearances, including a State Runner-Up finish in 1995. She was named Oklahoma Coaches Association Girls Basketball Coach of the Year (2005), earned All-State Coach honors, and served on the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association board.

Beyond the court, Rhonda made a lasting impact through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a school sponsor, speaker, and camp coach. Today, she continues her leadership as President of the EOSC Alumni Association.

Join us in celebrating Rhonda Kite Fields, a Mountaineer who paved the way for generations of female athletes!
