W&M Public Policy Program

W&M Public Policy Program The W&M Public Policy Program provides students with the intellectual tools needed to improve the quality of policymaking in the United States and abroad.

Located in historic Williamsburg, VA, William & Mary’s Master of Public Policy degree is a 2-year residential cohort model with many opportunities for customization along with its general quantitatively-focused curriculum. Students choose a track of core and elective courses toward either domestic policy, i.e. Public Policy Analysis, or International Development and Policy. Outside of its strong a

cademics, the focus of the program is ‘policy in practice’ whereby students participate in collaborative, real-world projects, off-campus programming such as Policy Dialogues, and a required 10-week internship between the two academic years. The admissions deadline in any given year is January 15th for priority financial assistance consideration. Internship stipends and graduate assistantships are also available.

From William & Mary to the Jeopardy! stage, MPP alum Diana Miller (Class of 2008) recently took home a win on Jeopardy!—the result of years of dedication and a lifelong love of learning. Growing up watching trivia shows with her mom, Diana first took the Jeopardy! test at 16. After more than a decade of trying, and making it to the audition stage multiple times, she finally got her moment on screen last month.

Diana is an attorney in Richmond, and she said her educational background even came into play with the game featuring a category on historic trials. She described the experience as “surreal,” and was surprised by how positive and supportive the other contestants were. In the final moments, she felt a mix of relief that her wager didn’t cost her the game and shock that she had gotten the answer correct!

Outside the studio, Diana keeps her trivia skills sharp by going to weekly trivia nights with her husband. Her advice for anyone interested in following her footsteps is to take the test, because you never know where it might lead.

The Graduate Research Symposium will take place tomorrow and Friday in Sadler! MPP ’26 Audra Nikolajski will be presenting her research “Education's Vaccine: High Dosage Tutoring's Impact on K-12 Learning Loss” tomorrow at 3PM in the James Room.

Project description: After COVID-19 school closures led to significant learning loss—most notably a 28% drop in math and 9% drop in reading SOL pass rates in Virginia—many districts turned to High Dosage Tutoring (HDT) as a potential intervention. Using a difference-in-differences analysis of six Northern Virginia counties from 2015–2024, this study finds that counties implementing HDT saw comparatively higher SOL pass rates, especially in upper elementary and middle school grades and in subjects like math where deficits were greatest.
