Dear Brothers,

It is with a heavy heart that I must share tragic news with all of you. Earlier this week, our esteemed SigEp Brother, Hulon Willis Jr, Class of '77, passed away.

Hulon's journey with our fraternity began during his sophomore year, and his commitment as an active member lasted for many years. In an interview conducted by William and Mary, Hulon reflected on his time in SigEp, fondly recalling the parties, concerts, and vibrant culture of the 70s as some of his most cherished memories from his college career.

In recent years, several Brothers had the privilege of meeting Hulon Willis Jr in person. Each brother who crossed paths with him attests to a positive and moving experience. Hulon Willis Jr. was not just a fellow Brother; he was a source of inspiration, someone we admired and strived to be like. It's worth noting that Hulon Willis Jr. was the son of Hulon Willis Sr., the first African-American student to attend the College of William and Mary. His values are woven into this fraternity’s history, representing resilience, leadership, and brotherly love.

As we remember Hulon, let us celebrate his impact on our fraternity and his positive influence on us. Share your personal memories and reflections in the comments below, creating a collective space to honor and commemorate the life of our dear Brother.

Brothers of Va Delta Chapter,

I hope you all had lovely holidays. My name is Luke Herndon; I’m a sophomore from the South Shore of Massachusetts studying film and marketing. I’m also the new Vice President of Communications for the chapter. I wanted to start this post with an apology. Since 2019, a severe communication failure between undergraduate brothers and alumni has occurred. I’m not proud of it, and the chapter wants to offer our sincerest apologies for our mishaps over the past five years. It’s a genuine shortcoming on our behalf, and we deeply regret not having alumni more engaged with the fraternity.

I was elected for this position to ensure that there will be adequate communication between past and current brothers. It’s my duty to make sure that past Alumni are connected with the fraternity either by newsletters or social media platforms. In recent weeks, I’ve been trying my absolute hardest to contact as many Alumni as possible. According to our records, it appears that almost 600 alumni have no available contact information. If you want to stay in the loop about events and receive our newsletters, please ensure your contact information is current. You can do this by going to the https://williamandmary.sigep.org/, then hover over support our chapter tab and click update information. If that does not work, please reach out to me directly either by email [email protected] or by phone at 781-206-7412, so I can personally input the information.

Since I just gained access to this page, I wanted to give an update on how the chapter is currently doing.

-The fraternity currently consists of 49 well-balanced men, with most of them being sophomores. We’re expecting a heavy freshman rush this spring.

-This past fall, the chapter was accredited as a SigEp Learning Community, a prestigious accomplishment not many can say they have.

-Alot of current brothers hold high-ranking positions across campuses. The most noticeable ones are AKPSI (business fraternity) and the IFC (interfraternity council)

-The on-campus house is still in our possession. Nearly 20 brothers, including myself, live there.

The future of SigEp here at W&M looks promising. We’re going to continue to grow and hope to further build on the values and principles that genuinely makes this fraternity special.

If you want to talk to me directly, please do not hesitate to reach out. My cell is 781-206-7412, and my email is [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from all of you, especially the memories you experienced while in SigEp.

Fraternally,
Luke Herndon
Vice President of Communications
