As the Fall 2024 semester ends, we are celebrating another successful Snowden 'til Late event at the library. This year's pajama party theme unfolded with packed study sessions led by professors and engaging relaxation activities led by the Campus Activities Board!

Yesterday, employees from numerous departments at Lycoming College, including Snowden Library, volunteered to wrap over 150 gifts and write Holiday cards for shelter residents at the American Rescue Workers in Williamsport. We are so thankful for the opportunity to give back to our community!

Snowden Library is proud to employ Thane as one of our student proctors!

Meet Thane Goetz '26, an astrophysics major and computational physics minor from Quakertown, PA. Thane recently had the incredible opportunity to meet with some of Google's top executives virtually! This meeting is just one of the perks of the $2,500 Society of Physics Students Google Scholarship awarded to only 21 students nationwide this year. Thane was awarded this scholarship in recognition of his character and ability to overcome significant challenges. From coming from a low-income, single-parent household to facing housing and food uncertainties, Thane's resilience has shone brightly. During the virtual meeting, Thane and his fellow scholarship recipients engaged in inspiring discussions with influential Google leaders, including:

🌟 Maggie Johnson, VP of Education for Google, who oversees technical education and global developer outreach programs.
🌟 Sandeep Giri, a Google expert in machine learning and artificial intelligence with a passion for solving engineering challenges.
🌟 Vint Cerf, widely recognized as one of the "Fathers of the Internet" and a key figure in the growth of Google's Public Sector Cloud business.

Looking ahead, Thane's dreams include pursuing a Ph.D. in astrophysics and gaining valuable experience through internships and research opportunities. Google executives even encouraged him to apply for internships with them and at UC Santa Barbara's quantum physics lab! We're incredibly proud to have Thane as part of our Lycoming College community!
