🩺✨ Calling All Surgical Technology Alumni! ✨🩺

We had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with the BIO 109 class for a hands-on fetal pig lab, bringing real surgical technologist expertise directly into the classroom!

Our students, Alumni, and instructors demonstrated and performed:
🔹 Lung lobectomy
🔹 Nephrectomy
🔹 Skin stapling & suturing techniques

This experience gave students a deeper understanding of anatomy, surgical procedures, and the critical role of the surgical technologist in the OR.

👏 Now we want to make this even bigger next year—and we need YOU!

Wrapping up our final week covering peripheral vascular with our second-year students! 🩺

We brought the learning to life in lab with hands-on practice in angiography access and a mock bypass. Students tackled their very first anastomosis—complete with great questions, a few laughs, and some impressive skill-building along the way.

Moments like these are where confidence starts to grow and future surgical technologists really begin to shine! ✨

And yes, they are not scrubbed in. 😁😁

This week, our students kicked off lecture using our new Anatomage Table—bringing the cardiovascular system to life! 🫀 Students can work through identifying and labeling key branches, directly connecting anatomy to the day’s surgical focus. This hands-on approach helps bridge the gap between lecture and real-world application.

In lab, things got even more exciting as we demonstrated a thrombectomy procedure! Students had the opportunity to simulate clot removal using a thrombectomy catheter (no real blood, of course!) and practice suturing the arteriotomy. This gave them valuable experience handling fine sutures and reinforced the importance of proper instrument passing, loading, and technique. - Yes, we are well aware we are not sterile!

A special shoutout to Tara, our adjunct faculty, for demonstrating the procedure and encouraging students through the experience!

These moments are what make surgical technology education come to life—hands-on, high-impact, and preparing our students for in the OR.

Our students were hard at work in lab today setting up sterile fields, organizing instruments, and practicing the fundamentals that make a strong surgical tech.

Loved being at the Loyalsock Careers Expo today! 🙌

It was such a great opportunity to connect students with one of our amazing clinical partners, Geisinger Muncy. Becky came prepared with hands-on surgical supplies and tons of insight, which paired perfectly with our laparoscopic simulation and really helped bring the surgical technology field to life for students.

Moments like this are what it’s all about—sparking interest, building connections, and shaping the future of surgical technology. 💙

Today our students stepped into the spotlight—literally—by starring in a brand new public relations video for the program! We love seeing them front and center, representing everything Surgical Technology is about.

They’ve worked hard to get here, and it shows. Week by week, their confidence, skills, and professionalism continue to grow—and we couldn’t be more proud.
