Coordinated by DEI chair LaTisha London, the Graduate Student Association presented a QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) su***de prevention training session for graduate students in collaboration with the Counseling Center.

We were able to fill 100% of the allotted RSVP spots and generate a waitlist, demonstrating the strong interest graduate students have in mental health initiatives and professional development opportunities.

As a result, 23 new gatekeepers from UNCW are now equipped to recognize the warning signs of su***de, provide support, and connect individuals with appropriate resources.

The overwhelming response underscores our graduate community’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness, strengthening peer support, and building an environment where students are prepared to help others. - LaTisha London

(GSA) celebrated Diversity "April" Month with a hybrid event featuring spoken word artist Rhonda Sekhmet Ra.

Some direct quotes from the video above: "When people are not exposed to other cultures, I think it limits their understanding of the rest world. There is also so much value in other cultures. In places especially like America and other places where there is a Eurocentric mindset the value of other cultures isn't acknowledged. I think that it is something that people should be grateful for, the value that you get from other cultures. When you're able to see things from different perspectives, even from a different language, cultures, and experiences it broadens how you see the world." -Rhonda

Diversity is not just about representation, it is a source of knowledge, innovation, and collective growth. It also encompasses empathy and something we should embrace!

Diversity and equity matter at UNCW‼️ During the "Diversity Event" on April 9th, the DEI Chair emphasized the pressing need for more diversity at UNCW, including the Graduate School. Take a look at these statistics from

Beyond the cultural centers, students have expressed that they want to see an increase in inclusivity across campus. This includes the professors, and faculty!

Did you know that 72% of graduate students are distance learners? The DEI chair has also advocated for more virtual learning opportunities and events for students. We'd like to have more support for educatees, who attend remotely; especially an expansion of resources for those outside of the Wilmington, NC area!

If you'd like to make your voice heard, please reach out to the Graduate School (info on the last slide) to share your concerns about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
