We’re Excited About The Future Of Nursing

At Shenandoah, our role is to help you prepare for success in this challenging and satisfying health profession. As a student here, you will have opportunities to share and learn from your fellow students, faculty and practicing nurses, from within the classroom to a range of clinical environments including hospitals, medical practices and pharmacies. Our

programs are challenging, but the rewards of completing your degree and entering this critical profession are many. We are committed to providing an outstanding education to nurses at all levels -- from people entering the profession with a Bachelor's degree in nursing, to advanced practice nurses seeking doctoral-level training. Our programs are dynamic and responsive to the needs of our students and the health care industry. Shenandoah Nursing offers classes in Winchester at the Health and Life Sciences Building, and in Ashburn at the Shenandoah Northern Virginia campus, conveniently located on Route 7 just east of Leesburg.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Lesley McCorry, Associate Dean at our Loudoun Campus, on being published in the Journal of Nursing Education! 👏📚

Dr. McCorry’s research highlights the importance of simulation theory and cognitive load in nursing education.

Conclusion:
"These findings validate the integration of simulation theory and cognitive load constructs in simulation design. Educators should consider student simulation and clinical experience when selecting fidelity levels to optimize simulation learning outcomes and students' cognitive load."

We are incredibly proud of Dr. McCorry’s contribution to advancing nursing education ! 💙🐝

📖 Take a moment to read her research article here:

Background: Due to limited experience, new nurses make most medication errors. This study compared how different types of simulation fidelity and other identified covariates predicted nursing students' medication administration competency and cognitive ...

The past few weeks have been incredibly busy and exciting for our graduating seniors! 🎓🐝

They participated in the Blessing of the Hands, completed their final exams, celebrated during our School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony, and most recently attended the University-wide Commencement Ceremony.

We are beyond proud of each and every one of their accomplishments and all of the hard work that brought them to this moment. Watching their journey come full circle has been truly inspiring.

"Menopause is something every woman will experience, yet so many of us feel unprepared, unheard, or even dismissed when it begins. In this episode of Discover Midwives, we’re changing that.

Join host Jessica Brumley as she sits down with Amy Giles, Certified Nurse-Midwife and educator, for an honest and empowering conversation about what menopause really looks like—and how midwives are uniquely equipped to support you through it.

Whether you’re in your 30s, 40s, or 50s, this conversation will leave you feeling informed, validated, and hopeful."

Dr. Amy Giles serves as the Director of Nurse Midwifery at Shenandoah University School of Nursing, bringing both expertise and compassion to this important discussion.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day to our amazing admins! 💙✨

You are our rocks, our missing puzzle pieces, our go-to problem solvers—and let’s be honest, the brains when ours decide to take a break. You keep everything running behind the scenes like absolute pros, making the chaos look effortless (even when we know it’s not!).

You’re the ones who can fix anything, find everything, remember everything—and still have time to share a laugh, offer a cup of coffee, or give us that much-needed breath of fresh air. You bring new perspectives, positive energy, and the kind of warm welcome that makes the School of Nursing feel like home.

So much of what you do happens quietly behind the scenes, and while it may not always be seen, it is ALWAYS appreciated. We truly couldn’t do this without you—and we couldn’t let your special day pass without giving you a big, well-deserved shoutout! 🎉

Thank you for being the heart, the glue, and the magic that keeps us all going! 💙

Dr. Amy Giles, Nurse-Midwifery Program Director, recently participated in a conference where she shared her expertise and passion for improving maternal health outcomes.
As you can see in the photos, Dr. Giles is actively engaging with the community—educating and inspiring others while highlighting the importance of AIM Patient Safety Bundles. These evidence-based practices are designed to improve the quality of care during delivery and throughout the postpartum period.
She also spoke on the critical topic of hypertension in pregnancy, raising awareness and promoting better care for mothers and babies.
We’re proud to see our faculty making an impact beyond the classroom and leading important conversations in maternal healthcare 💙 ❤️
