Shenandoah celebrates alumnus Kollin Wisniewski ’23, who recently received the Superior Civilian Service Award—the second‑highest honorary recognition granted to Department of the Army civilians, equivalent to the military’s Legion of Merit.🎖

Kollin earned this distinction for his work on a major Organic Industrial Base (OIB) study mandated by Congress and the Secretary of the Army. In just the first 30 days, his team visited 23 sites nationwide, met with private‑sector partners, and built AI‑driven tools to analyze massive volumes of qualitative data—all while navigating the pressure of a looming government shutdown.

Reflecting on the honor, Kollin shared:
💬“The education I received from Shenandoah provided the foundation, discipline, and perspective I rely on daily.”

Kollin graduated with a Bachelor of Science in data science & applied mathematics, and we couldn’t be prouder of the impact he’s making.🎓

✅Answer: On July 11, 2009, the historic Wi******er Armory, originally opened on Dec. 8, 1940, officially became part of Shenandoah University. Once Virginia’s oldest active armory, it housed the Virginia National Guard’s 116th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, which participated in D‑Day.🐝

In 2024, the building was renamed the Hazel‑Pruitt Armory, now home to the Hub for Innovators, Veterans, and Entrepreneurs (HIVE).

From supporting debris removal across 23 counties to helping families navigate FEMA processes, her dedication made a real difference in western North Carolina’s hardest‑hit communities.🏆
