Less than two weeks away - Come join us to celebrate current players and alumni from multiple decades! Band and Jazz Ensemble both perform on April 16th @ 3 PM in Page. Reception in Toner Center follows, plan to meet composer Benjamin Taylor, visit with fellow musicians, alumni, Eric and I after the performance. The concert is free and open to all, let's fill Page Theatre! Don't forget the Choir concert on 4/15, spend the weekend in Winona!

Mark your Calendars for December 11th!
The Saint Mary’s Concert Band will end the winter celebration weekend with a performance at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, on the Page Theatre stage. The band will perform works both new and old, from Shadow Rituals by contemporary composer Michael Markowski to Leroy Anderson’s classic Christmas Festival. Come and enjoy an hour of live music that will leave you energized and ready for the holiday season.

All performances are free and open to the public with doors opening 30 minutes before concert time.

Concert Band starts in less than a week - August 29th, 6:45 PM in Yon's Hall room 158. If you played in high school you are welcome to join in, and the band is open for community and motivated high school players again this year after two years of limited community involvement.

Ironically it was composed for Father Burns Inauguration Ceremony, but it now has a life of it's own, and although most of you weren't in the band yet, we presented the premiere performance!

Dear band members and band alumni:

By now you’ve more than likely seen the terribly sad news that Saint Mary’s is shutting down 11 majors - including all of the Fine and Performing Arts. I’m in grief, I’m angry, frustrated and heartbroken. But I’m also determined to enjoy my last year as a full time professor during the 22-23 academic year.

The April 16th 2023 Spring concert will feature both jazz ensemble and concert band, Eric and I have some great plans for that afternoon. Band Alumni who still are playing their instruments are invited to come and join in for the Holst Suite #1 (music pdfs will be sent in advance) and perhaps some of the other pieces as well. We’ll enjoy premiering the last Kaplan Commissioned work being composed this summer by Benjamin Dean Taylor for this concert. Eric has some wonderful jazz plans, and we’ll be performing a piccolo & euphonium duet together to celebrate the “Heukeshoven Finale.”

Please email me if you’re interested in attending and playing in this concert - we want to fill the stage! The SMU Alumni office will be helping to contact former band members, but we know that we’ll be missing many email addresses.

Today was the last performance of the 21-22 season for the SMU Concert Band. After two years of no music at graduation, we performed a prelude concert, processional and recessional for the 2022 in-person undergraduate commencement ceremony. Congrats to all the graduates!
