In his 35 years at Saint Mary's, Mark Barber has most enjoyed seeing students connect philosophical questions to their own lives. As a professor of philosophy, he always took students questions seriously and made sure to meet the needs of students and colleagues alike.

In retirement, he is hoping to catch up on projects he did not previously have time for and maintain connections. He will miss being in the classroom the most and the challenge of responding to students questions on the spot. Thank you for all of your contributions to the Saint Mary's community! Congratulations on your retirement!

We are just one month away from The Lord Chamberlain's Men's performance of Othello! Othello follows the story of a soldier, Iago, as he plots for revenge against Othello, the Moor of Venice, who overlooked Iago for a promotion. An 18-hour road trip led Gavin Stichman to Saint Mary’s, and it changed his future.

Originally from Billings, Mont., Gavin discovered Saint Mary’s while touring colleges across the Midwest. Today, the environmental biology and conservation major is conducting wildlife research, exploring the bluffs surrounding campus, and preparing for a career in conservation.

From hands-on research opportunities to a campus where nature is just steps away, Gavin found more than a university, he found a community where he belongs.

Hannah (Friedrich) Shelton-Davies B’16, M’20 communicates for a living; in fact, her entire job is about meeting new people and building relationships. She says being involved at Saint Mary's helped her grow her communication skills and community, something that now carries over in her role as a a major gift officer at Regions Hospital Foundation in Saint Paul.

Shelton-Davies wasn't sure what she wanted to earn a master's in at first, but she did know the quality of a Saint Mary' education. When she first decided to advance her education, she worked as a nonprofit office manager where she did some fundraising. After hearing about the Philanthropy and Development program at Saint Mary's, she decided the program would be the perfect fit.

Learning doesn’t stop when the classroom ends.

This summer, 10 Saint Mary’s psychology students took their knowledge beyond the classroom through paid internships across the Midwest, gaining hand-on experience while making a meaningful impact in the lives of children, adolescents, and adults.

From behavioral health and education to community and residential settings, these students completed more than 3,150 hours of experiential learning while preparing for careers focused on helping others.

Through mentorship, collaboration, and real-world practice, our psychology students are putting the Lasallian mission into action.
