A doctor was ready to discharge the patient. Kylie Davidson B’25 wasn’t.

The Saint Mary’s nursing graduate and RN at Mayo Clinic recently received the Daisy Award, a prestigious national recognition honoring nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care to patients and their families.

Davidson was nominated after advocating for a patient recovering from a brain biopsy. Recognizing he was not ready to travel home, she questioned discharge plans, took on additional shifts to monitor his condition, and provide reassurance to both the patient and his family during a difficult time.

As a member of Saint Mary’s inaugural nursing class, Davidson credits her education with teaching her to care for the whole person, not just the diagnosis. Today, she continues to embody the compassion, confidence, and adaptability that define Saint Mary’s nurses.

Peyon Berg B'26 found her community at Saint Mary's in both her academics and her extracurriculars, particularly within her close knit softball teammates. The people around her have helped her grow academically and personally.

Berg studied psychology and was involved with Psychology Club, Student Senate, BUDDIES and the Psychology Honor Society. She’s ready for the next chapter in her life, earning a master’s degree in mental health counseling so she can become a mental health therapist and work with adolescents and young adults.

Outstanding Senior Javier Rodriguez Cifuentes B'26 ended his speech at our undergraduate Commencement ceremony earlier this May with a reminder to students of what they are capable of as they take the next steps in their personal and professional lives. They should be proud of the growth and resilience they have demonstrated in the last four years.

During her speech at Commencement, Outstanding Senior Zoe Fink reminded us that a diploma does not show the full picture of a students' educational journey. Behind a diploma are years of hard work, growth, and memories that shape us into who we are.

Earlier this year, four Saint Mary’s students presented research to licensing associates and innovators at Mayo Clinic as part of Saint Mary’s 2025-26 Innovation Scholars team. Innovation Scholars (IS) is an organization that provides students at private colleges and universities in Minnesota the opportunity to research new products in development at Mayo Clinic.

This year's Saint Mary's IS team consisted of Joseph McDermott B’26, Emma Stemper ’27, Christopher Ullrich B’26, and Malerie Williams B’26. The multidisciplinary group spent four months conducting research on their product, considering both scientific and economic perspectives. They were led by St. Thomas MBA student Rob MacDonald. Associate professor Dr. Matt Rowley and assistant professor Samantha Borawski served as faculty mentors.

When Sara Murray M’24 first began studying psychology at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, she did not initially envision a future in military psychology. That changed after hearing Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Tuong Setala, a Navy psychologist and alumna of Saint Mary’s Psy.D. program, speak about her experiences serving as a psychologist in the Navy.

Murray is now working as a lieutenant and clinical psychology intern at Naval Medical Readiness Training Center San Diego (NMRTC-SD) as she finishes her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology. Her internship training has provided experience across outpatient mental health, emergency psychiatry, inpatient settings, and more. She is also able to pursue her interests in child psychology and perinatal mental health.

Murray is continuing a growing tradition of Saint Mary’s graduates pursuing careers in Navy psychology. As she finishes up her internship, she is mentoring current doctoral student William Casserly, who matched with the NMRTC San Diego psychology internship program for the 2026-27 training year.
