A doctor was ready to discharge the patient. Kylie Davidson B’25 wasn’t.
The Saint Mary’s nursing graduate and RN at Mayo Clinic recently received the Daisy Award, a prestigious national recognition honoring nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care to patients and their families.
Davidson was nominated after advocating for a patient recovering from a brain biopsy. Recognizing he was not ready to travel home, she questioned discharge plans, took on additional shifts to monitor his condition, and provide reassurance to both the patient and his family during a difficult time.
As a member of Saint Mary’s inaugural nursing class, Davidson credits her education with teaching her to care for the whole person, not just the diagnosis. Today, she continues to embody the compassion, confidence, and adaptability that define Saint Mary’s nurses.
