Meet cellist Sterling Elliott!
"Joyous musicianship" and a stellar stage presence ✨

We are counting down the days until cellist Sterling Elliott joins the Secrest stage! A BBC New Generation Artist, Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, and Sphinx Competition winner, Sterling has already performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Fun Fact: Sterling performs on a magnificent 1741 Gennaro Gagliano cello, on loan through the Robert F. Smith Fine String Patron Program! Hear its gorgeous, rich tone fill Brendle Recital Hall on September 24th.

| Two bands. One field. One unforgettable sound.

Winston-Salem State University's Red Sea of Sound is reuniting with Wake Forest's Spirit of the Old Gold & Black for a joint performance on Opening Night, Thursday, Sept. 3, as Wake Forest takes on Akron at Allegacy Financial Stadium. It's the third time the two bands have shared the field for Opening Night, following memorable performances in 2019 and 2021.

Made up of 145 students studying music education, music business and more, the Red Sea of Sound has performed everywhere from the Honda Battle of the Bands to the Circle City Classic. This reunion is a celebration of the deep, growing partnership between WSSU and Wake Forest, and the Winston-Salem community they both call home.
