Saint Stephen Harding was born in Dorsetshire, England between 1060 – 1070. He was educated at the Monastery of Sherborne and later in Paris and Rome. Saint Stephen joined the Benedictine Monastery of Molesme and later he, Robert and Albert, and twenty other monks began a reformed community at Citeaux (Cistercians). Stephen became the third Abbot and attracted to the monastic life such persons as

St. The purpose of Saint Stephen Harding Theological College and Seminary is to continue the scholarly, classically catholic, and deeply spiritual formation, which was encouraged by Saint Stephen. And also like Saint Stephen, to be both contemporary and forward thinking. Scholarly:

Our courses are comparable, and often superior, to the best Theological Schools. Course texts and authors are of the highest academic standing. Our faculty members are academically trained and experts in their fields. Classically Catholic:

Our courses are solidly catholic in content. Our faculty members are trained in Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox traditions. We have a strong focus on Sacramental Theology. Spiritual Formation:

We believe that theological education should be spiritually transforming. Many courses are on Spiritual Formation, Direction, Mysticism, Asceticism. Many courses on devotions to and the lives of the saints. Courses focus on Scripture studies. Many of our faculty belong to religious communities. Contemporary:

We meet the need for off campus studies. We use the World Wide Web for research. Courses are practicable/applicable, readable and deal with current issues. We offer more courses than most seminaries. Our faculty members are currently active leaders in ministry. Forward Thinking:

We work with other bishops and abbots and their jurisdictions to educate their clergy and laity. We allow students to create their own courses and programs. We offer a wide variety of alternative studies/programs. We have a School of Orthodox Theology. We have the flexibility to meet many unique situations. Saint Stephen Harding would be proud of our efforts to confess the faith and equip the Church. We encourage you to study with us.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am writing to ask for your prayers for a dear Abbot General Isaac Simon, OCCO, who, in early May, will undergo surgery for cancer.

This is a difficult time. I am asking you to hold him close in prayer as he prepares for the operation.

I ask that you join me in lifting him before God, asking for healing, protection, and peace. Please pray that the healing process begins even now, that the surgeons and medical team are guided with clarity and skill, and that the operation is successful in every way.

Pray also for calmness of heart, strength of spirit, and the comforting presence of Christ throughout the days ahead.

Your support and prayerful solidarity mean more than words can express.

Thank you for surrounding this intention with the love and faith that define our community.

If you wish to send him a card or email, send it to me, and I will forward it to Abbot General Isacc Simoon, OCCO. [email protected]

In Christ,

Abbot Oscar Joseph, OCCO

“Since its 1098 inception, the Cistercian charism has been the refuge of some of monasticism’s most ardent lovers of God. These men and women seek out hardship and rigor in order that they might breathe the rarefied air of true desert spirituality. The strict adherence to the Holy Rule of St. Benedict, the intense solitude, and unwavering focus on contemplating God in prayer is certainly not for everyone. Not every Christian drawn to consecrated religious life is called to such ascetical practices and disciplined lifestyle. But for those of us who are, each aspect of this humble expression is precious balm on hearts truly aching for closer union with the Lord. The Cistercian Order of the Holy Cross is an opportunity for a Spirit-led man or woman to become a true monk or nun in this revered tradition. Our leadership structure is designed to accomplish the traditional formation of Postulants and Novices. The immediate assignment of each candidate to a Novice Master and the requirement that every person have regular contact with a Spiritual Director and Confessor in their area ensures confident and qualified members for the Order. The Cistercian Order of the Holy Cross serves God in a variety of ministries throughout the world. Our union with each other, developed through common prayer and sacrifice also unites us to Jesus Christ, whom we ultimately serve with pure joy.”www.CistercianMonks.org

“Indeed, our affiliation with the Cistercian Order of the Holy Cross has brought tremendous spiritual blessings to us and our dear ones. The Cistercian habit has become an effective and visible sign of the healing and reconciling presence of our Lord Jesus.”www.CistercianMonks.org
