The Office of Alumni Engagement extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and loved ones of Harold “Funny” Kitt.

A proud Ram, New York playground legend, and gifted basketball standout, Kitt’s name will always be connected to the legacy of Winston-Salem State University. From New York to Winston-Salem, he brought talent, energy, confidence, and an unforgettable presence to the game.

We honor his life, his contributions, and the lasting mark he made on WSSU basketball and the Ram family.

His legacy lives on in Ram pride.🐏❤🤍👐🏾

NY Playground legend and Winston-Salem State HOF Harold “Funny” Kitt has passed away. Kitt brought Stephen A. Smith to WSSU for that famed tryout.

The Office of Alumni Engagement will be closed today as our team supports and celebrates two meaningful WSSU moments: the 2026 WSSU Spring Commencement (https://vimeo.com/event/5853382) and the Bill Hayes Golf Tournament.

Today, we welcome more than 900 graduates into the alumni community and continue showing up for the legacy, connection, and Ram pride that make WSSU special.

Hey Ramily!!! It’s graduation season, and we are proud to celebrate two of our own in Advancement and Alumni Engagement: William B. Gibson, Director of Corporate/Foundation Engagement, and Raushanah N. Butler, Senior Director of Alumni Engagement.

Mr. William B. Gibson graduated on Saturday, May 9, with his Master of Public Administration in Urban Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This achievement reflects his commitment to public service, strategic leadership, and building partnerships that expand opportunity and move the mission forward.

Rev. Dr. Raushanah N. Butler also graduated on Saturday, May 9, with her Doctor of Ministry in Church Leadership and Community Witness from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Her dissertation, "Violence from the Parking Lot to the Pews, to the Pulpit: A Holistic Clergy Response to Domestic Violence", reflects her deep commitment to justice, advocacy, and community care.

Their accomplishments reflect the same drive and commitment they bring to work every day. We celebrate William and Raushanah for what they have achieved and for the way they continue to serve, lead, and pour into our WSSU community.

Congratulations to them both!
