As Winston-Salem State University enters Year 3 under Chancellor Bonita Brown's leadership, the focus is on student success, from recruitment to access and enrollment through graduation and career outcomes.

WSSU is welcoming its highest enrollment since 2021. This fall, 5,210 students are calling WSSU home, including 1,120 first-time freshmen with an average incoming high school GPA of 3.4. We have the highest graduate enrollment of 681 in a decade.

In just a few days, the Red Sea of Sound teams up with Wake Forest's Spirit of the Old Gold & Black for a joint halftime performance at Allegacy Financial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, with Wake Forest hosting Akron. Catch it live in the stadium or tune in on the ACC Network.

| New date. New route. Same Ramily spirit.

This year's Homecoming Parade kicks off Homecoming Week on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. with a brand-new route — starting at Research Parkway and Fifth Street, turning onto Rams Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and wrapping up on Cromartie Street. The Red Sea of Sound will headline the entertainment, joined by Chancellor Bonita J. Brown and First Gentleman Wesley Brown, elected officials, high school bands and floats.

After the parade, head to Bowman Gray Stadium at 5 p.m. for the Lighting of the Sign, featuring music, food trucks and stepper performances. Homecoming culminates Nov. 7 when the Rams host Fayetteville State at Bowman Gray Stadium. Want to walk, ride or roll with us? Registration is open through Oct. 11.

WSSU was Wake Forest Law’s first university partner in an initiative that creates a pathway for qualified Rams to pursue a Wake Forest legal education with significant scholarship support. On Sept. 3, another WSSU-Wake Forest tradition continues as the Red Sea of Sound and the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black come together for their third joint performance during Wake Forest’s Opening Night.

TWO BANDS. ONE CITY. ANOTHER OPENING NIGHT.

Winston-Salem State’s Red Sea of Sound will reunite with Wake Forest’s Spirit of the Old Gold & Black for the Demon Deacons’ 2026 home opener.

The collaboration began in 2019; HBCU Gameday documented how two universities separated by five miles found common ground through music. Seven years later, the bands are taking the field together again.

Join Winston-Salem State University on September 10 at the Benton Convention Center for the inaugural WSSU AI Summit, "Rising with Intelligence: Advancing Innovation and Human Possibility." Keynote speaker Dr. Siobahn Day Gray, WSSU Class of 2005 and Founding Director of the Institute for AI Education and Research, will lead the conversation, joined by faculty, students, researchers, and industry partners for a full day of sessions on AI in education, business, and society.

| Two bands. One field. One unforgettable sound.

Winston-Salem State University's Red Sea of Sound is reuniting with Wake Forest's Spirit of the Old Gold & Black for a joint performance on Opening Night, Thursday, Sept. 3, as Wake Forest takes on Akron at Allegacy Financial Stadium. It's the third time the two bands have shared the field for Opening Night, following memorable performances in 2019 and 2021.

Made up of 145 students studying music education, music business and more, the Red Sea of Sound has performed everywhere from the Honda Battle of the Bands to the Circle City Classic. This reunion is a celebration of the deep, growing partnership between WSSU and Wake Forest, and the Winston-Salem community they both call home.

| From Lambs to Rams.

Winston-Salem State University's freshman class officially joined the Ramily on August 15, marching through the university's historic archway during the "Through the Archway" ceremony to close out Ramdition week. With the Red Sea of Sound setting the tone, the Class of 2030 stepped through the archway, symbolizing their transition from "lambs" to Rams.

Chancellor Bonita J. Brown welcomed the freshmen at the C.E. "Big House" Gaines Center, challenging them to see the moment as Day One of a new chapter. From move-in to the archway walk to Meet the Rams, Ramdition brought our newest Rams into the fold, and we couldn't be prouder to call them family.
