Secondhand smoke gets most of the publicity, but more and more research is showing the negative health effects of thirdhand smoke (the toxins that remain on surfaces, furniture, and clothes when cigarette smoke settles). This recent study out of UC Riverside showed that THS exposure can induce Type 2 diabetes in mice. THS is incredibly hard to remove and persists even if a smoker moves out, so this is very relevant to all the apartment tenants we are trying to protect from the dangers of to***co.
