And that’s a wrap on HECA 2026 Conference!

What an incredible few days in Chicago filled with meaningful conversations, collaboration, learning, and connection with colleagues and friends from across the country.

A heartfelt thank you to our outstanding Conference Co-Chairs, Ann Boldt and Susan Zinanti, for creating such a thoughtful, engaging, and well-executed conference experience. From inspiring sessions and professional development opportunities to networking, roundtables, college fairs, and time to reconnect with friends and colleagues, the energy throughout the conference was truly special.

This year’s conference also held particular meaning for me as I concluded my service on the HECA Board. Being part of the presidential cycle has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my professional career, and I am deeply grateful for the friendships, mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities it has brought into my life.

I was especially touched and honored by the kindness and recognition from colleagues and friends throughout the conference. This community continues to remind me why I value this profession so deeply.

Thank you to everyone who helped make such a memorable experience. I’m already looking forward to seeing this incredible community again next year in Cleveland!

Today, Custom College Consulting honors Juneteenth — a day of reflection, recognition, freedom, and resilience.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and serves as an important reminder of both our nation’s history and the ongoing importance of education, opportunity, equity, and community.

We believe education has the power to open doors, elevate voices, and create meaningful change. As counselors and educators, we remain committed to supporting students from all backgrounds as they pursue their goals, share their stories, and shape the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our session, Unlocking the Collective Advantage: How the IECs Can Work Better Together, at !

I’m incredibly grateful to have presented alongside my wonderful colleagues from the EdPro Collaborative. What made this session especially meaningful was that we weren’t just speaking theoretically about collaboration; we were sharing a partnership model we actively live every day and one that continues to thrive because of the trust, communication, and support we’ve built together over time.

It was also such a gift to finally be together in person to present on a topic that reflects so much of the work we genuinely value and believe in.

Together, we explored how educational consultants can build stronger, more intentional partnerships while maintaining independence, ethics, and professional integrity. The thoughtful discussion, shared experiences, and engagement from attendees made for such a meaningful conversation.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and contributed. I continue to be inspired by this profession and by colleagues who are so committed to supporting students, families, and one another.

A fantastic and productive start to !

As Immediate Past President, this was especially significant for me as it marked my final Board meeting leading up to the conclusion of my service on the HECA Board of Directors.

It was incredibly rewarding to help support the transition to our incoming leadership team while reflecting on the work, growth, and collaboration that have defined these past several years. The level of thoughtfulness, strategic discussion, professionalism, and shared commitment around the table was truly inspiring.

We ended the evening with a wonderful Board Dinner filled with meaningful conversations, reflection, appreciation, and laughter — a reminder that some of the strongest parts of HECA are the relationships and partnerships built along the way.

I am so very grateful for this experience and for the opportunity to serve alongside such talented and dedicated colleagues.

“Unlocking the Collective Advantage: How IECs Can Work Better Together”

Together, we’ll explore how independent educational consultants can build more intentional, structured partnerships to better support students and families while still maintaining independence and professional integrity.

Hosted by the Higher Education Consultants Association, this conference brings together dedicated professionals committed to ethical practice, ongoing growth, and meaningful collaboration. It’s truly an honor to be part of this program.

Join Jodi L.G. Glou, President of Custom College Consulting, as she explores Warren Wilson College, a truly distinctive institution nestled on an expansive 1,150-acre campus just outside Asheville, North Carolina. With 600 acres of managed forest, a working farm, and multiple organic gardens, the campus itself becomes an active classroom that blends academics, sustainability, and real-world experience in a way few colleges can match.

With a student body of approximately 600, Warren Wilson offers an intentionally small, residential community where students are deeply connected, not only to their peers and professors, but also to the land and the surrounding community. The college is built on its signature Triad model, which equally emphasizes academics, work, and service. Every student participates in all three, creating a highly engaged and purpose-driven college experience.

Academically, Warren Wilson offers 22 majors, with strengths in environmental studies, environmental science, biology, psychology, business, outdoor leadership, and animal science (including a pre-vet track). What sets the curriculum apart is its commitment to experiential learning: every student completes hands-on, community-engaged coursework, participates in faculty-mentored research, secures at least one internship, engages in four years of meaningful work experience, and culminates their studies with a senior capstone project.

The work program is a defining feature of the Warren Wilson experience. All students are part of a work crew, choosing from over 60 options, and contribute approximately 10–20 hours per week. Roles range from farm work and forest management to leadership positions across campus operations. In addition to gaining practical skills, students earn money toward tuition while building a strong sense of responsibility and community.

Student life reflects the college’s commitment to inclusion, individuality, and well-being. Residential options include themed housing such as eco-dorms, substance-free living, LGBTQIA+ communities, and even pet-friendly residence halls. The college also prioritizes neuroinclusive support, offering programs designed to meet a wide range of learning needs.

Warren Wilson’s approach to education is both innovative and mission-driven, focused on access, sustainability, and preparing students for meaningful careers and civic engagement. The college takes a holistic approach to admissions, is test-optional, and many students receive significant financial support, including full-tuition scholarships.

With Division III athletics, a strong emphasis on leadership development, and a campus culture rooted in collaboration and purpose, Warren Wilson College offers a powerful alternative to the traditional college model—one where students don’t just learn, but actively live their education every day.
