Ohio State University Extension - Wayne County EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION - OSU Extension is your connection to the trusted resources of The Ohi

Ohio State University Extension brings the knowledge of the university directly to you. We fulfill the land-grant mission of The Ohio State University by interpreting knowledge and research developed by Extension and other faculty and staff at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Ohio State main campus, and other land-grant universities – so Ohioans can use the scientifically bas

ed information to better their lives, businesses and communities. The Extension system is the world’s largest non-formal educational system. Extension’s hallmark is programming delivered by professionals to address the needs of the local community while also addressing state, national, and global issues. Our practical educational programs combine the needs of local citizens and communities with new research and technical information. No matter which county you visit, you can find people who are helped by the four major OSU Extension program areas: family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, community development, and agriculture and natural resources. These program areas – and many other special topics – are continuously being evaluated and updated to meet the changing needs and issues facing each community. Extension provides practical advice, sensible solutions, and realistic down-to-earth answers for ALL Ohioans.

Time is winding down for you to complete your Ohio Grape and Wine Producer's Survey by March 31, 2026, so make sure to have your voice heard. This information will assist in building programing and resources, not only your production, but your business operations. If you have started but not yet completed your survey responses, now is the time to do so! If you have not yet started the survey, now is time to do so! Whether you are a vineyard only, a winery only, or both, this survey is for you. No operation is too small or big to participate. For additional information and to take/complete the survey, please see below.

Researchers from The Ohio State University Extension's Business, Retention, and Expansion team have partnered with The Ohio State University's Department of Horticulture & Crop Science, the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Ohio Grape Industries Committee, and the Ohio Wine Producers Association to conduct a statewide assessment. This important confidential survey will provide insight into the state of the Ohio grape and wine industries and identify areas for expansion.

We need your response!
Please consider completing the survey at https://osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a4YpFGu2oCJW2X4

Your responses will contribute valuable insights to the business retention and expansion plans of Ohio’s grape and wine industry! The survey is confidential and should take no more than 10-15 minutes.
Thank you for your time and attention!

Join the Northeast Ohio Ag Innovation Center and partner organizations for a 1-hour virtual info session on the USDA Value-Added Producer Grant program next Wednesday, March 25.

FREE registration link: https://go.osu.edu/vapginfo

This session is relevant for producers working in the value-added ag space who are interested in market expansion. The VAPG program is impactful, and Ohio could be better represented with more recipients!

In addition to the recorded info session, we’re holding weekly office hours dedicated to VAPG applications each Monday and Wednesday, 1-2pm, until the application period closes on April 22.
And finally, our schedule is flexible to meet with producers outside of typical business hours. Get in touch at [email protected] or 330.263.8072 to schedule time outside of those office hours or for any other value-added ag needs.

Buckeye Lady Beetle Blitz Community Science Program Training 2026

The Buckeye Lady Beetle Blitz is a Community Science Program that tracks the abundance and species richness of lady beetles across the state of Ohio. Unfortunately, many species of lady beetles have declined dramatically in recent decades, and we are monitoring the abundances of remaining populations.

We first conducted our survey from 2009-2015 and would like to resample lady beetle populations 10 years later to see how they have changed.

Our program seeks volunteers who have a home garden (either a flower or food garden) that would be willing to collect lady beetles using a yellow sticky card trap in this garden over two weeks this summer (one week in June and August).

Workshop participants will learn about the results of our initial survey and be provided with the tools and training needed to contribute to the 2026 survey.

Wayne County is one of several host sites for this training. The Wayne County training will be held on Monday, June 1st at 6 PM at the Secrest Arboretum Welcome and Education Center, 2122 Williams Road, Wooster, OH 44691. RSVP's are required to make sure we have enough materials, but the class is free. RSVPs can be made to the Wayne County Extension Office at 330-264-8722 or via email - [email protected].
