Sarah Lawrence College Dance Program The SLC Dance program presents students with a curriculum that exposes them to vital aspects of dance through physical, creative, and analytical practices.

The Sarah Lawrence College Dance program presents students with an inclusive curriculum that exposes them to vital aspects of dance through physical, creative, and analytical practices. Students are encouraged to study broadly, widen their definitions of dance and performance, and engage in explorations of form and function. A variety of performing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate stud

ents are available in both informal and formal settings. Although projects with guest choreographers are frequent, it is the students’ own creative work that is the culmination of their dance experience at the College.

Another successful year in the Dance Program! Samanvita Kasthuri MFA ‘27 is asking students their favorite classes, moments, and dance studios in campus🤍💚

Yesterday we celebrated the end of the 2025 - 2026 academic year with our annual Dance Picnic! After component classes shared what they have been working on this semester, we gathered on the Small Studio patio for snacks and to say our goodbyes to graduating students🎓

Check out the most recent episode of SLC Transcript Review (link in bio) featuring Dahlia Shepherd ‘26 and Dance Program Director, John Jasperse ’85!

In this episode, Dahlia and John explore how dance at Sarah Lawrence connects creative practice with professional experience. Through the Open Performance program, Dahlia collaborated with visiting artists, gaining a behind-the-scenes view of how a dance company works. Alongside studying movement theory, creating choreography, and analyzing performance, she found a strong sense of community and purpose—culminating in what she describes as “seeing the birth of something,” bringing an original work to life from concept to performance.
