What an awesomely amazing day to be an AKA!!

Over 200 of our sisters from across the Commonwealth converged on the State Capitol today for our annual AKA Day at the Capitol! We were "Soaring to Greater Heights of Advocacy"! Alpha Beta Chi Omega Chapter was honored to co-host this amazing event with our sisters of Epsilon Sigma Omega Chapter

The day was made doubly wonderful with the attendance of both Regional Directors that represent PA chapters... AKA North Atlantic Region Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq. and AKA Great Lakes Region Gwendolyn L. Kirtley, and our International Connection and Social Action Chairman, Beverly A. Fields, Esq.!

We were welcomed to the Capitol on the House Floor by the Honorable Rep. Joanna McClinton, Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and on the Senate Floor.

We met with our respective state representatives to discuss support for solutions to the issues that impact our communities across the Commonwealth. We heard powerful remarks from distinguished panelists on Black Maternal Health and Teen Su***de Prevention!

What a powerful day of sisterhood, impact and social action!

Three years ago TODAY, the Alpha Beta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered in York, PA, the 1st chapter chartered under the F.I.R.S.T. Administration of Notable North Atlantic Regional Director, Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq.!

We are small but mighty... bringing the AKA Brand of service to all mankind to the greater-York community!

Today ABXO celebrates Arbor Day! 🌲🌳

ABXO highlights Penn Park, the first public park founded in York, Pennsylvania, in 1816.

Penn Park served as a location for a large US Army Hospital during the Civil War (1862 to 1865), a place for newly freed slaves to stop when traveling in the mid-1800s, and a spot for activists and protesters to come together (during the 1960s after Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination and again in 2020 after George Floyd’s death). This park also honors veterans such as Vietnam Veteran Sgt. Calvin Charles Rice Jr. Outside of being an early York Fair location site, the park hosted the “10,000 Acts of Kindness Festival” in 2019.

With over 210 years in existence, Penn Park, home to various community and sporting events, remains a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds in the greater York Community.
