Today we remember the late Martin Luther King and we should remind ourselves that he was a radical of his time. He believed in the power of socialism and the power of being silent and complacent. In this time, silence is the acceptance of death of marginalized groups. The civil rights movement is not over and did not end with his assassination. We still see oppression all around the world by the same groups of people. Today, these oppressors are going to quote him as a peaceful, non violent protester and loved by all then continue to silence people now who are speaking on the atrocious actions committed by the US, Israel, the UK and many others. They will fill your ears with empty promises of peace and say "look how far we've come". Yes, our society looks different but oppression and injustice is still here living and thriving in American soil and abroad. In 1963, Dr. King said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
This movement is fighting against the very idealisms and powers that slaughtered the Native Americans, enslaved Africans, encamped the Japanese and all other atrocities committed by Europeans and the US government. Much of this history is misunderstood due to the misinformation provided by those in power. The text messages on the last slides is a testament to that. We are fighting not only against the powers that be but the propaganda that poisons us. Someone I used to call a friend is infected by the very rhetoric these governments use to disrupt our progress. There are many others like this and with that I say be careful of the company you keep because they may not have your best interests at heart. I hope everyone can find moments of joy and remember that our fight is far from over especially now that we are over 100 days of g3noc!de in 🍉🍉🍉
