EMU Opportunity (EO) is searching for impressive EMU student-leaders who have excelled academically, are responsible, reliable, and energetic but most of all have a desire to help students overcome academic challenges and succeed at a post-secondary level. Interested students may apply for one of the EMU Opportunity Program job openings listed in this email. The EMU Opportunity (EO) Program is targeted at students who fall just below regular admission standards but show the potential to succeed with first year guidance. EO is a two-fold conditional-admit program:
Students gain the opportunity to participate in Extended Orientation - a structured three-week summer residential collegiate enrichment experience;
EO participants who successfully fulfill all summer term requirements will be enrolled into the Scholars Program for the Fall and Winter semesters of the first year.
The following job opportunities for the 2015 EO Program are available:
Mentors - Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student of at least junior standing. Resident mentors provide support, encouragement, and leadership for the fifty (50) participants during the three-week summer Extended Orientation. Additionally, during the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 semesters: meet with students regularly, conduct study groups, facilitate workshops, communicate with staff, engage and help students holistically adapt to the collegiate environment. Please see the attached posting listed as "EO Mentor Description_2016" for further details.
Academic Coaches - Must be a currently enrolled graduate student. Academic Coaches will prepare and hold five two-hour college success seminars during the three-week summer Extended Orientation, participate in weekly staff and/or team meetings, and attend all training sessions. Additionally, during the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 semesters, each coach will be required to intrusively engage with students, develop success plans with each student bi-weekly, track student progress, and work with each student on time management, academic schedule, study habits, etc. Please see attached posting listed as "EO Academic Coach Description_2016" for further details.
To apply, please submit a completed application, cover letter and resume to Eric Reed, EO Coordinator; in-person or by mail to 301 Pierce Hall; via email to [email protected]; or by fax to 734.487.6908. A review of application materials will begin March 25th, vacancies are open until filled. Serious applicants should apply soon.
