Today, Arizona Western College officially launched the expansion of its Prison Education Program (PEP) at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Yuma, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry.
The expansion creates a pathway for incarcerated individuals to earn an AWC Associate of Arts degree through rigorous online coursework designed by AWC faculty, with direct transfer equivalencies across all three Arizona state universities.
On-site, our Prison Education Program Manager is guiding students step by step through admissions, financial aid, and academic planning toward accredited credentials and workforce-ready skills.
The program is anchored in four pillars: Access, Transformation, Redemption, and Reintegration, removing barriers to education and equipping graduates to build viable, living-wage futures after release.
Thank you to today’s event speakers for their partnership and leadership in making this possible:
Dr. Reetika Dhawan, President, AWC
Bryan Doak, Executive Vice President for Learning & Student Services, AWC
Elaine Groggett, Executive Director of Centralized Scheduling, Assessment, Curriculum, and Special Projects, AWC
Dr. Ryan Thornell, Director, Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry
Ruben Rosas-Parra, Warden, Arizona State Prison Complex – Yuma
We’re proud to champion work that strengthens individuals, families, and our entire community.
