We are proud to recognize James Workman as the recipient of the Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award! 👏
Adjunct faculty play an incredibly important role at Zane State College. They bring real-world experience into the classroom, connect learning to life beyond college, and make a lasting impact on the students they serve every day.
Mr. Workman’s nomination beautifully reflected the difference he makes in the lives of his students. One student shared that he “believed in me more than I did myself sometimes” and credited him with helping them stay in school during some of life’s most difficult moments. Students describe Mr. Workman as understanding, supportive, fair, and deeply committed to helping every student succeed — not only academically, but personally as well.
Whether he is making complex topics easier to understand, offering encouragement during challenging times, or sharing valuable life lessons alongside classroom instruction, Mr. Workman consistently creates an environment where students feel seen, respected, and supported.

After graduating high school in 2020, Victoria began her college journey at during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like so many students, she faced the sudden challenges of online learning and ultimately made the difficult decision to step away in 2021.
But Victoria’s story didn’t end there.
In 2023, she chose a fresh start at Zane State College — a decision that reignited her goals and set her on a new path toward success. Through perseverance, determination, and the courage to begin again, Victoria found an environment where she could truly thrive.
Her story is proof that the right environment changes everything — a college that knows your name, instructors who invest in your future, and the courage to change course can turn uncertainty into something extraordinary.

This award honors a staff member who consistently demonstrates outstanding performance, professionalism, and a strong commitment to student success and the mission of the college.
Christian continually goes above and beyond when challenges arise with student-facing systems, often working after hours to prevent disruptions for students and staff — even when the issue extends beyond his assigned responsibilities. His depth of practical knowledge strengthens our systems, supports our staff, and advances institutional priorities across campus.

After graduating from John Glenn High School in 2015, Erik never imagined college would become part of his story. Years spent working in retail management eventually led to a life-changing conversation that encouraged him to give Zane State’s EEET program a chance — a decision that transformed his future.
Erik quickly discovered a passion for engineering and for helping others learn, becoming both a lab assistant and later a teaching assistant while continuing into the BSET program. Along the way, life brought unimaginable challenges, including a family tragedy and a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis, but Erik faced each obstacle with determination, resilience, and the mindset to keep moving forward — one day at a time.
Today, Erik has accepted a role as a project designer and engineer at UAS and graduates not only as a 4.0 student, but as someone who proved to himself just how far perseverance, support, and purpose can take you.
We are proud to celebrate Erik’s transformation, strength, and commitment to building a brighter future — both for himself and for those around him.

This Memorial Day and every day, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service.

In observance of Memorial Day, Zane State College will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026. The College will resume regular hours of operation on Tuesday, May 26.

As we reflect on this year’s graduating class, we celebrate the journey of Zane State graduate Abigail Elswick! 🎓✨
After graduating from West Muskingum High School in 2024, Abi began at Zane State still exploring what direction her future would take. Along the way, she discovered a passion for accounting, combining her natural interest in numbers and data with hands-on learning and real-world experience through an internship with Muskingum Valley Health Centers.
Now a Zane State graduate, Abi plans to continue working in the accounting field while pursuing her bachelor’s degree with Franklin University.
We are proud of Abi’s initiative, curiosity, and confidence in building a future she is proud of, and we cannot wait to see all she accomplishes next!
