5. Plan your budget and cook at home
If you want to save money, avoid eating out often. Plan your weekly and monthly budget. Plan out how much you want to spend on your food and groceries. It really is much cheaper to cook at home than eating out in France. But of course, it depends on what you cook and ensure that it fits into your budget. But of course, you can treat yourself during the weekends! It doesn’t hurt to treat yourself occasionally. As long as it is in your budget!

4. Open a local bank account
Open a bank account with a local branch or partner institution. This can help avoid ATM and purchase fees. Because if you use your own credit or debit card you might incur extra costs like interests on your card. So, to avoid such costs, bring your cash in, create a local card with a local bank and deposit them, this will make life much easier for you too!

Students and individuals under the age of 25 are eligible for quite a few discounts in France (and throughout Europe). 2. If you can, study in smaller cities
If you do not mind which city you study in then maybe you can consider studying in smaller cities, away from Paris, for a more authentic (and inexpensive) French experience. Cities such as Grenoble, Lyon, and Cannes are good possibilities.

Avoid touristy areas where restaurant prices will skyrocket. But of course, you have to visit these places, I mean come on, imagine not visiting the Eiffel Tower when you are in France! For trips to these attractions, pack a baguette lunch from the corner store. Don't be afraid of less extravagant restaurants, a tip is to seek patrons speaking French and avoid English menus because these restaurants tend to be slightly more expensive.

1. Behave like a local
When we are overseas, we spend more than locals. Well, that is not a surprise as we do not know where to buy items or things we need. So, to be safe, we will go to the nearest supermarket to get practically everything we need. That is still alright if we are staying for a short period of time, but if we are staying for a longer, we need to budget and save.

To save money, we really have to find hidden discounts and budget perks like a local. Just like back in our home countries, we know where to get what at low prices, we know which shops are overpriced and which shops are cheaper. This applies in your host country as well. The first few weeks, you will be spending a little more because you still do not know the market well but try to not purchase things in the first shop that you visit, visit a few stores, compare prices or ask the locals where you get the thing you want for a good price.

Reason Number 5: An introduction to an incomparable cultural universe
France is often considered the language of culture. A French lesson is a cultural journey into the worlds of fashion, gastronomy, the arts, architecture and science. Learning French also offers access to the works of great French writers such as Victor Hugo or Marcel Proust and famous poets like Charles Baudelaire or Jacques Prévert, in the original text. It means being able to hear the voices of actors Alain Delon or Juliette Binoche, and the pleasure of being able to understand the words of French songs sung by an Édith Piaf or a Charles Aznavour and even sing them yourself.

Reason Number 4: A language of reasoning and debate
French is an analytical language that structures thought and develops critical thinking. It is the language of great philosophers (Descartes, Sartre and Derrida, among others) and eminent scientists (Pierre and Marie Curie, Pasteur, Georges Charpak, etc.). In learning French, children also learn how to argue a case and present different points of view, valuable skills for discussions and negotiations.
