Tokyo, Japan 22/05/2026 - The National University of Samoa (NUS) has officially signed a contract with Konoike Construction Co. Ltd. for the Improvement of Facilities for the Faculty of Health Science (FOHS), following receipt of the no objection letter from JICA on the evaluation report for the bid submissions from constructors for the project.
The signing ceremony was held at Konoikeโs Tokyo Head Office and attended by the Vice-Chancellor and President, Afioga Professor Tuifuisaโa Patila Amosa-Malua, Chief Operating Officer, Leota Sarai Faleupolu Tevita, and Planning Manager, Vaelupemaua Junior Uatisone, representing NUS. Konoike was represented by Mr. Takashi Endo, Executive Officer and General Manager of the International Division, alongside his team. Representatives from Yamash*ta Sekkei Co. Ltd., led by Mr. Kuroda Shingo, were also present.
During the visit, the NUS delegation also met with JICA at its headquarters in Tokyo to reconfirm the collaboration between NUS, JICA, and the Government of Japan in support of this important project. The contract is now being submitted to the JICA office for verification in accordance with the project process.
The University also acknowledges the Consortium of Yamash*ta Sekkei Inc., Fukunaga Architects-Engineers, and Binko International Ltd. for arranging and supporting this official trip.
This milestone marks the beginning of a strategic partnership to deliver upgraded facilities that will strengthen health education, research, and workforce development in Samoa.
Construction is scheduled to commence in early August 2026.
The contract is now being submitted to the JICA office for verification in accordance with the project process.
