The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) officially renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a signing ceremony on 8 June 2026. The renewal marks a significant milestone, reinforcing both partiesโ€™ shared commitment to advancing climate technology, environmental intelligence, and sustainable development in Hong Kong and beyond.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from the leadership of both institutions. Dr. Keith Choy, General Manager of the Green Living and Innovation Division at HKPC, and Prof. Benjamin Horton, Dean and Chair Professor of SEE, highlighted the importance of strong institutional collaboration in addressing pressing global sustainability challenges.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Horton and Dr. Choy, with Prof. Edwin Tso, Associate Dean (Internationalisation and Outreach) of SEE, and Ir Dr. Michael Ching, Head of Climate Technology and Innovation at HKPCโ€™s Green Living and Innovation Division, serving as witnesses.

Following the ceremony, a dynamic joint forum showcased the complementary research strengths of SEE and HKPC. The programme featured a series of engaging presentations, beginning with Dr. Wei Zhao (HKPC), who introduced innovative thermal management solutions based on phase change materials, followed by an intriguing, interdisciplinary talk by Prof. Henry He (SEE) titled "From Cellphone Screens to Dolphin Brains". Advancements in environmental engineering were further highlighted by Mr. Kai Wu (HKPC), who shared recent breakthroughs in wastewater treatment using Advanced Anammox-Chemical Co-Treatment. Finally, Prof. Xueke Li (SEE) wrapped up the forum by emphasizing the critical role of climate science in building urban and coastal resilience, sparking meaningful dialogue on future sustainability collaborations.

The delegation later embarked on an interactive tour of HKPC's laboratory facilities. The SEE faculty visited the Circularity Research Centre, the Marine Eco-Tech Innovation Centre, and the Aqua Lab, paving the way for technical exchanges and identifying new areas for joint environmental testing and co-development.

Through this renewed partnership, SEE and HKPC look forward to nurturing future talent, spearheading impactful green technologies, and firmly supporting Hong Kongโ€™s journey toward carbon neutrality.

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) Student Chapter 2025/26 successfully organized a corporate exposure visit to the Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) headquarters on 9 April 2026. The educational excursion provided 20 SEE students with firsthand insight into the operations of a leading engineering enterprise.

Headquartered in Hong Kong, JEC is a prominent engineering firm renowned for providing extensive electrical, mechanical, and building technology services across Asia. The company is widely recognized for its management of large-scale engineering contracts and major infrastructure projects, including airports, mass transit railways, and environmental facilities.

The visit offered a comprehensive itinerary designed to help students bridge the gap between their environmental engineering studies and real-world corporate applications. The session included an office tour and company introduction for students to get to know JECโ€™s business scope, key projects, and workplace environment. Another key focus was the Graduate/MT sharing, where students could learn about job duties, rotation structure, training support, and career progression. The visit concluded with a Q&A session, allowing students to ask questions directly and gain practical insights into the engineering profession.

The School of Energy and Environment commends the SEE Student Chapter for their excellent coordination of this event, and extends its appreciation to Jardine Engineering Corporation for hosting our students and fostering the next generation of engineering professionals.
