Photography at Long Beach City College Where creativity meets craft. At LBCC, we teach more than photography—we teach how to see.

From darkroom to digital studio, students gain hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and a strong foundation in both technical skills and artistic vision. This page is dedicated to both our current and past students, and all of our friends in the photography world. Let's click!

“It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter.”

Today's high is 95ºF.

But in the lab, we have AC and it's a perfect 68º. Just sayin'.

If you need a break from the heat. Stop in. We also have snacks.

The LBCC Photo Labs at both the LAC and TTC campuses will be closed on Thursday, March 12 for Flex Day.

So… what’s Flex Day?

Flex Day is when regular classes pause so faculty can participate in professional development, workshops, and planning sessions designed to improve instruction, student services, and the overall student experience. In other words: we spend the day learning how to teach you better.

Think of it as “school for your teachers.” 📚

We’ll be back in the labs the following day—refreshed, recharged, and possibly with new photography tips, ideas, and bad jokes about exposure ready to go.

Thanks for your patience, and we’ll see you in the lab soon! 📷✨

Too funny to not share 😅

The Photography Program at LBCC is officially on Instagram.

Is there content yet?
Technically… no.

Is it coming?
Oh, absolutely. IT. IS. COMING. 📸✨

In the meantime, we want your ideas.

What do you actually want to see?
• Student spotlights?
• Behind-the-scenes chaos?
• Gear tips?
• Industry advice?
• Photo critiques?
• Memes about missing focus?

Drop your requests below.
You get to help shape this from day one.

Let’s build something worth following. 👀

If you’ve ever said, “They should really…”

Perfect. This is your moment. Help us build what you wish you had and make this program so good people get jealous.

We’re working on improving the Photo Program at LBCC, and your feedback actually matters.

If you’ve taken a class, used the lab, borrowed gear, or even just THOUGHT about it… we’d love your input.

The survey takes just a few minutes, and it helps us advocate for better resources, stronger programming, and more opportunities for students.

Take the survey.
Be opinionated.
It’s encouraged.

We’re exploring ways to improve our photography program. Your input will help shape classes, workshops, and opportunities. This survey takes only a few minutes—thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Photography can document history—or help shape it.

This Black History Month we honor Gordon Parks, an American photographer whose work reshaped documentary photography and visual storytelling. Parks was self-taught, became the first African American staff photographer at Life magazine, and used his camera to explore civil rights, poverty, and the dignity of everyday life in powerful, empathetic imagery.

Photographers can learn from his approach: Parks didn’t just record a scene — he connected with his subjects and let their humanity guide the frame. Whether you’re shooting portraits or documentary work, take time to build trust and really see the person or story you’re capturing. That connection often makes the difference between a snapshot and a compelling image.

Let Parks’ work inspire you to use your photography as a tool for empathy and deeper storytelling.
