The University of Fort Hare (UFH) has officially opened its Speech Therapy Clinic in KuGompo (East London) on 29 May 2026. The fully equipped teaching and service facility is designed to expand access to communication rehabilitation services for underprivileged communities at no cost, while strengthening the clinical training of future healthcare professionals.
Located at the New Teaching Venue on Oxford Street, the clinic represents a significant development in the Faculty of Health Sciencesโ Speech Language Pathology (SLP) programme offered by the Department of Natural Rehabilitative Sciences.
The facility is designed to respond to growing community healthcare needs, particularly in areas where access to specialised speech therapy services remains limited.
The launch brought together healthcare professionals, government stakeholders, students, and community members, indicating a shared commitment to strengthening rehabilitation services in the Eastern Cape.
