FROM: EFFYC Alice Branch
TO: All Students
SUBJECT: Update on Laptop Distribution
DATE: 29 May 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE;

Revolutionary greetings to the student community. The EFFYC Alice Branch would like to provide students with an update regarding the ongoing laptop distribution process. As of the close of business on Friday, 29 May 2026, the Finance Department had approved a total of 520 students for laptop collection. Out of the approved students:

1. 457 students have successfully collected their laptops.
2. 63 students are still yet to collect and are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

We would also like to reassure all students that laptops will not run out (azikazophela). A total of 3,000 laptops were ordered by the university, while 2,372 students applied. This means there are still approximately 600+ laptops remaining after the current allocation.

The remaining laptops will be used to assist students who did not receive laptops in 2025 and previous years, particularly those who are still registered undergraduate students.

EFFYC understands the anxiety many students have had around this process, and we want to assure the student community that we continue to engage with the relevant offices to ensure fair access and that no deserving student is left behind.

Students who are still awaiting communication are encouraged to remain patient while the remaining processes are finalised. EFFYC Alice Branch remains committed to ensuring that access to learning resources is fair, transparent, and beneficial to all students.

FROM: EFFYC Alice Branch
TO: All Students
SUBJECT: Update on Campus Safety and Security Measures
DATE: 26 May 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE;

Revolutionary greetings to the student community.

The EFFYC Alice Branch, together with the EFFYC-led SRC, is pleased to inform students that significant progress has been made in advancing campus safety and strengthening security measures across the University of Fort Hare Alice Campus.

Following ongoing engagements and interventions around student safety, we have successfully ensured that additional safety precautions are now being implemented in areas that have been identified as vulnerable and high risk to students.

As part of these efforts, security cameras have now been installed across various parts of campus to improve surveillance, monitoring, and rapid response to incidents.

Importantly, fencing has also been installed at the back of Student Village Residence near East Camp, an area that has long raised serious safety concerns among students. This intervention follows the tragic incident that took place in that area last year, where a student sadly lost their life. We have remained firm that such incidents must never be repeated, and that student safety must be treated with the urgency it deserves.

These developments mark an important step towards creating a safer campus environment for all students. We further want to assure students that EFFYC will continue to push for additional security interventions, particularly inside student residences.

It remains our position that residences must have fully functional security cameras operating 24/7, especially in residences where there are currently no stationed security guards. Student safety, dignity, and well being remain non negotiable.

EFFYC Alice Branch remains committed to ensuring that every student feels safe both on campus and in residence spaces. We will continue engaging with the university until all necessary safety measures are fully implemented and maintained.

SUBJECT: Call for Donations to the Food Drive
DATE: 25 May 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Revolutionary greetings.

The EFFYC Alice Branch invites all students, staff members, and members of the broader community to support our “EFFYC Food Drive” an initiative aimed at assisting students who currently do not have adequate means to access food during this period.

We recognise that many students continue to face difficult financial circumstances, and access to food remains a daily challenge for some among us. As EFFYC Alice Branch, we believe that no student should go hungry while pursuing their studies.

We therefore call upon everyone who is willing and able to contribute to this initiative to donate non-perishable food items and other essentials to help us reach students in need.

All donations can be dropped off at the EFFYC Stall. Alternatively, donors may contact the individuals listed on the official poster for collection arrangements and further details.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in supporting a fellow student. Together, let us stand in solidarity and ensure that no student is left behind.

“Feed one student, support one dream.”
