"The Danish theologian and philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard once told a story of a king who fell in love with a poor maiden, but he realized that there was a problem. How would he reveal his love to her? He could command her to be his queen. But that would not be an ideal way to earn her love. Then he thought perhaps he could give her royal gifts. But that too is problematic because how would he ever know that she loved him for himself despite the gifts? Finally, he came up with a solution. He took off his crown, relinquished his scepter, laid aside his royal robes, and took upon himself the life of a peasant. He became as ragged as the one he loved so that he could be with her forever. This story tells of the distance between the king and the maiden and how the king overcame their distance... [Click here to read further].

This e-conference investigates the theology and praxis of Christlike formation. It seeks to integrate biblical and theological understandings of transformation with practical expressions in pastoral care and Christian counselling, encouraging deeper reflection on how theology informs, sustains, and embodies the process of becoming like Christ. Conference presenters are required to articulate a biblically grounded theology of Christlikeness. Speakers are invited to engage with themes such as: (1) How the formative journey shapes and sustains discipleship and pastoral identity. (2) The integration of spiritual formation, theology, and counselling praxis in ministry contexts. (3) The dialogue on how care, community, and counselling contribute to Christlike transformation in the African context.

All submissions will be reviewed by a Selection Committee. The decision of the Selection Committee is final, and the Committee is not obligated to provide any explanation for their ruling. Papers presented can be submitted for consideration for publication in Conspectus, the journal of the South African Theological Seminary.

Recently, friends of ours became parents for the first time. A week after the baby’s birth, they visited us. The husband held his daughter for about 10 minutes, only to hand her back to the mother exclaiming, “please take her; my back is killing me.” At that moment, I knew what my husband was thinking and we established afterwards that he knew what was on my mind too. As parents of three boys—two three-year-olds and one six-year-old, we chuckled inwardly at this father of a one-week-old complaining that his baby was too heavy.... [Click to read further].

A message to our current students, future students, and the churches we serve…

From the beginning, SATS has existed to serve the church by training men and women for ministry. Our commitment has always been to respond to the call that “the harvest is plentiful—the labourers are few.” Our response is to prepare Christlike leaders in every church and marketplace ministry, from a Bible-based, Christ-centred, and Spirit-dependent theological education offering.... "A study of salvation should begin with the gospel itself. Without a clear vision of the gospel, our understanding of salvation risks becoming fragmented, moralistic, or overly individualistic. The apostle Paul declared, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).[1]"
