Empowering Girls. Preserving Dignity. Supporting Education.
The Women in Business community at UCT GSB is running a Pad Drive in support of CoolPlay a 15-year-old NPO that has empowered over 2,700 children through sport and mentorship, building resilience and confidence in underserved communities.

Many young girls in South Africa miss school due to limited access to sanitary products. This initiative aims to restore dignity, support education, and ensure no girl is left behind due to period poverty.

Your LinkedIn profile isn't a CV.

It's your professional reputation running 24/7. And most people get it wrong.

The biggest mistakes:
- Headlines that just say your job title
- Summaries that read like a 2012 cover letter
- Never posting, or posting everything

What actually works:

Your headline should signal value, not just position. "Helping African brands scale through digital storytelling" beats "Marketing Manager at Company X."

And activity matters more than profile polish. One thoughtful comment per week does more for visibility than a new banner image.

We are getting the inside track this Wednesday from Samantha Coom (The Social Craft) on making LinkedIn actually work.

Today we honour the people who build.

Not the headlines. The hands. The teams that solve problems no one sees. The professionals who show up and deliver, every single day.

The best leaders don't sit above the work. They make the work better for everyone involved.

That means knowing names, fighting for your team's growth, and building systems that outlast your ego.

Leadership that only serves upward isn't leadership. It's politics.

Happy Workers' Day, South Africa.
