🏃♂️🏃♀️ Cape Town. Africa. The World.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 2026 was one for the history books!
Ethiopia swept the elite races, with Mohamed Esa storming to victory in an astonishing 2:04:55, setting a new course record and recording the fastest marathon ever run on African soil. On the women's side, Dera Dida Yami claimed victory in 2:23:18, completing a remarkable Ethiopian double. Three course records fell during an unforgettable weekend of racing.
Beyond the elite performances, there was a combined field of 44,500 participants who competed across all events, runners from all around the world experiencing the energy, beauty and spirit that make Cape Town one of the world's most extraordinary destinations. With record participation, a growing international presence and global attention focused on the Mother City, the event has taken another major step towards becoming Africa's first Abbott World Marathon Majors race.
At Nordic House, we are proud to see Cape Town continue to showcase the very best of South Africa to the world. Events like these strengthen our city's reputation as a place to work, live, study, play, invest and visit.
Congratulations to every runner, volunteer, supporter, organiser and partner who made this extraordinary event possible!
